The title of the book is not elusive: "This changes the dog capitalism against the climate".  The book, written by the American journalist and environmental activist Naomi Klein, is about to be published in September. In the meantime, the publisher published a video explaining the main argument in it.

"In December 2012, a scientist specializing in complex systems took the stage at a meeting of the American Geophysical Union to present research." Klein said against the background of a series of video photographs of the construction of skyscrapers and the burning of grain fields.

Later she adds: "The title of the article was: Is the Earth screwed?" And her answer was "yes, and even quite a lot."

This is the direction the road is taking us, and it has less to do with carbon emissions than with capitalism. Our economic model is at war with life on Earth. We cannot change the laws of nature, but we can change our broken economy and that is why climate change is not only a disaster, but also our best opportunity to demand and build a better world.”

"We have changed or we have changed, but make no mistake. This will change everything." she adds.

According to the publisher, the new book is even more important than Klein's previous bestseller "The Shock Doctrine".

Climate change is no longer an issue that should be filed between taxes and health care. This is a warning call asking us to fix an economic system that is already failing us in many ways. Klein meticulously constructs the explanation of how massive reductions in carbon emissions are our best chance to reduce economic inequality, reinvent our broken democracies, and rebuild local economies. It describes the ideological decline of climate change deniers, the messianic delusions of geoengineers, and the tragic defeat of many mainstream green initiatives.
These arguments will not be new to those who have followed Klein's work, and similar arguments by others in recent years, but the expectation is that, as in her previous journey to the roots of modern capitalism in the book "The Shock Doctrine", Klein will present her comprehensive vision to describe the difficult situation in the present and her vision for the future.

In a speech to Canada's largest labor organization a year ago, Klein told members of the organization that the time has passed when the interests of working people and industrialists were concerned with what climate scientists dictate to humanity within the economic model of corporate-biased global capitalism. She also emphasized the fact that climate change should not be described as a disaster, but as a huge opportunity to reshape political paradigms and the struggle for global justice.

"I'm trying to explain to you that climate change - when its economic and moral implications are fully understood - is the best weapon the progressive movements have ever had to fight for equality and social justice."

"However, first we must stop running away from the climate crisis, stop leaving it to environmental scientists and examine it. Let us absorb the fact that the industrial revolution that led our society to abundance is now throwing off the balance of the natural systems on which all living things on Earth depend."

"Climate change", she added. "They are no longer an issue that should be added to the list of concerns. This is a wake-up call to human civilization."

IPCC: We must stop warming to save the planet

The Fox network invented a rival organization to the IPCC to convince that there is no warming

Why is the claim that the Earth stopped warming 16 years ago incorrect?

  1. Assaf, not Rosenthal.
True, but so negligible... the rate of destruction of the rainforests is orders of magnitude more significant than how many trees were planted in Israel - and certainly when most of the trees planted in Israel are of a species that is not suitable at all.
When I was a child - fish was much cheaper than meat. Today it is not like that - and the reason is simply overfishing all over the world.

  2. Lasaf (probably Mr. Rosenthal). It seems that your attitude is arrogant. Because despite what you believe, man does not only cause damage. The human race also loves nature. And there are species of animals and plants that have benefited from the relationship with man. For example, nature in Israel. Since the establishment of the state, the number of trees has increased, and so has The number of goats, deer, birds. And the new species.

  3. I definitely agree with Assaf. I will try to expand on the point of consumer culture. What is hidden beyond the title, is an economy based on the word "more" or in a more washed-up word "growth". If the growth, i.e. an increase in the consumption of products and services stops or is reduced, the value of the companies will also decrease. The world's economists will loudly announce that the terrible economic crisis has arrived. We need to motivate a different economic concept that does not assume infinite growth. According to what I read here, the author criticizes (justified) the existing method, but does not offer an alternative

  4. In my opinion, the term "economy/free market" is fundamentally incorrect because European and American agriculture is protected by subsidies, and because regulation directs the economy in certain directions - tax benefits, fines, budgetary preferences, and lobbyists.

  5. I haven't read the book but according to the synopsis
It is missing two significant topics:
1 - Eliminating the culture of consumption (originating in the USA) that causes overconsumption
    and depleting resources and livelihoods,
2 - What I have been claiming for many years:
The control of the environment must stop for the sake of the human population
And in its place there must be control of the human population for the sake of the environment.
If and when these two issues are realized, a significant change will be created
that will enable a dignified and decent existence for the human population
without damage to the environment and without danger to future existence.
