Dotan Berger, from Moshav Kadesh in Barnea and a 3th grade student at the prestigious high school for environmental education at Midrash Sade Boker in the Negev plateau, was chosen along with 4 other students from dozens of candidates from around the country to participate in the XNUMXth Earth Science Olympiad which combines various fields of knowledge such as geology, geophysics, Meteorology, Oceanography, Astronomy and Environmental Sciences.
At the High School for Environmental Education in the Ben Gurion Midrash, Earth Sciences has been taught for over 10 years.
In order to promote education in the field of earth sciences around the world, a global organization IGEO International Geoscience Education Organization was established with the goal of encouraging and developing public awareness of earth sciences especially among young people.

4 years ago, the organization started the tradition of an Olympiad for teenagers studying this major in the world, with the aim of arousing interest and awareness among the public in the field.
100 earth science students under the age of 18 from 25 countries came to the Modena Olympics: Argentina, Australia, Belarus, Cambodia, Cyprus, Ethiopia, France, Honduras, Indonesia, India, Italy, Japan, Korea, Kuwait, Malaysia, Malta, Norway , Pakistan, Philippines, Russia, Romania, South Africa, Singapore, Spain, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Ukraine, Hungary, United States and Israel.
During the competition, the examinees faced a theoretical exam that includes knowledge and understanding, as well as a practical exam that measures their ability to carry out a scientific investigation on the same topics.

Each delegation consisted of four students and two instructors. The facilitators are experts in earth science and education in this field and can also serve as an international judging team.

The official language in the exams is English, although the instructors were allowed to translate into the student's language.
