The Israel Space Agency in the Ministry of Science and Technology will open this Sunday, January 27, 2013, a week of cultural and leisure events for the general public in the field of space. This year the events will mark the tenth anniversary of the space shuttle "Columbia" disaster on which the first Israeli astronaut, the late Ilan Ramon, was. As part of the events, there will be exhibitions, lectures, seminars, as well as live broadcasts from the International Space Conference, special radio transmitters, an online lesson with an astronaut, special Facebook applications and more.

On the occasion of the events, 14 heads of space agencies from around the world will arrive in Israel, including Charles Bolden, head of NASA. He will be accompanied by the heads of the space agencies of the leading countries in the field such as Russia, France, Italy and a senior official of the Chinese Space Agency. These will be joined by people from space industries and scientists from the field of science and space as well as astronauts from NASA who will visit the centers of the Space Week events and the schools and tell about their experiences in space.

As part of Space Week, the following events will take place:

"Israel in Space" lectures: at the opening of the Space Week events, popular lectures in the field of space by the best lecturers in the field will be held on Sunday, January 27, at 20:30 p.m. - in bars, cafes and community centers throughout Tel Aviv and Herzliya. The lectures will deal with hot topics in the field of space such as: architecture in space, tiny satellites, cyberwarfare in space, the Israeli space program, the first Israeli spacecraft on the moon, life outside the earth, the expected dangers to humanity from space and more. Among the lecturers: researchers and scientists, people from space industries, people from the Israel Space Agency and more. All lectures are open to the public free of charge. The "Journey to the Stars" exhibition: models of the planets in the solar system and their special characteristics will be built by XNUMXth to XNUMXth grade students from various schools in Israel and will be displayed in three science museums - the Kalor Science Garden in Rehovot, the Science Museum in Jerusalem and the Madatech Museum in Haifa in an exhibition open to the public Expand free of charge.

International space exhibition: a unique opportunity to see the latest developments in the field of space in Israel and to witness the real size of launchers, satellites and space systems from Israel and the world. As part of the exhibition, space industries and space agencies from Israel and the world will present real scale models of launchers, satellites as well as innovative technologies in space. In addition to the exhibits, there will be lectures by astronauts and scientists from NASA and Israeli scientists. The lectures will be accompanied by simultaneous translation. The exhibition is an initiative of the Israel Space Agency at the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Fisher Institute and accompanies the Ilan Ramon International Space Convention.
