In the words of the university's reasoning, it is stated that the title will be awarded to Prof. Sorek in recognition of her being an outstanding scientist in the field of molecular neurobiology, whose research sheds new light on the mechanisms of response to stress and anxiety situations; In her work in the study of the genetic basis of the cholinergic system, she leads the development of innovative drugs for the prevention and treatment of post-traumatic syndrome and degenerative diseases of the brain and nervous system, thus alleviating the suffering of patients and their families; The title will be awarded to her "out of appreciation for the award-winning researcher, former president of the Israeli Association for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, who works to advance women in science; To a gifted lecturer, the dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, who devotes her time and energy to the education of future generations of scientists and researchers, including assistance for biotechnological research at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev; Let's thank her for her important contribution to basic and applied science, to higher education in Israel, to modern medicine and to understanding the courageous connections between body and mind."

In addition to her, the university will also award honorary doctorate degrees to Israel Prize laureate Haim Israeli, Israel Prize bride, architect Ada Karmi-Melamed, CEO of Bank Leumi, Galia Maor and philanthropist Mark Rich. Public figure Shmuel Rifman, who serves as head of the Ramat-Negev Regional Council, as chairman of the Negev Development Authority and chairman of the Forum of Heads of Regional Councils in Israel, will receive the 'Dearest of the Negev' award.

The ceremony of awarding the degrees will be held in the presence of the President of the State, Shimon Peres, at 17.30:XNUMX, in the Sonnenfeld Hall in Kiryat University in Be'er Sheva.
