Minister of Science Akunis decided: the scholarships of the Ministry for Ethiopian Expatriates will be named after the late Menachem Begin

March 2 marked the 25th anniversary of the death of the late Prime Minister Menachem Begin

On the eve of the 25th anniversary of the death of Menachem Begin, which was celebrated on Thursday, March 2, the Minister of Science decided Ofir Akunis Perpetuate his memory through a study scholarship fund for Ethiopian expatriates that will be named after him.

Science Minister Ofir Akunis said: "There is nothing more appropriate than to name the scholarships given to Ethiopian expatriates after the great leader, former Prime Minister Menachem Begin." Upon entering the Prime Minister's office he ordered: 'Bring me the Ethiopian Jews.' Begin saw a mission in making education accessible to everyone and enacted the Free Education Law. Thanks to the scholarships of the Ministry of Science for Ethiopian expatriates, many students and researchers will be able to focus on studies and scientific work for a better future for them and for us."

For the first time, the ministry is allocating scholarships to expatriates from Ethiopia, in a total amount of NIS 1,800,000. The ministry announced the scholarships following the publication of data from the Central Bureau of Statistics which showed that the number of students from Ethiopia is low. So far, the Ministry of Science has registered a lot of interest in applying for scholarships.

The scholarships, for a period of one academic year, will be given for studies in all fields and will allow the financing of the degree and a certain living. The amount of the scholarship for undergraduate students up to a total of 15 thousand NIS, for graduate students up to a total of up to 50 thousand NIS; for PhD students up to a total of NIS 80; and for postdoctoral students up to a total of NIS 100.
