The landing is scheduled for December 2003

While the American spacecraft "Odyssey" 2001 is making its way towards Mars, to slip an orbit around it in October and begin transmitting information on its surface, in January-2002 the European Space Agency determined the landing sites on Mars, for its spacecraft which will be called "Beagle-2" its landing is planned for December The year 2003 is mid-spring in the northern hemisphere of Mars. The spacecraft and a space vehicle that will emerge from it are being built by British engineers.

The landing area on Mars is called "Aisidis Planitia" - an area located between 5 degrees and 20 degrees north, which is about 500 km long and 100 km wide; almost flat, quite large, on the border between the hilly area and the northern plains of the Red Planet. Apparently there are no rocks too big in "Yazidis" that would disrupt the landing or prevent a safe landing, nor much dust or a steep slope of the surface. The area was also chosen because, in the scientists' estimation, it is optimal for the proper functioning of the spacecraft's instrumentation in the sub-zero cold conditions.

The assumption is that in the deep layers of the soil, traces of a certain type of life that may have existed on Mars in the past will be discovered and it is not clear why they disappeared.

The "Beagle-2" mission is part of the scientific mission that received the code name "Mars Express". Its purpose is to launch a spacecraft that will attack the red and intriguing planet, study its atmosphere and geology.
