Dr. Avital Stein was appointed Deputy President and CEO of the Technion

Dr. Stein, who currently serves as vice president and CEO of the Jerusalem Academic College of Engineering, is the first woman to hold this senior position at the Technion since its founding 85 years ago

The Executive Committee of the Technion decided yesterday to appoint Dr. Avital Stein (48) as Deputy President and CEO of the Technion. Dr. Stein, who currently serves as vice president and CEO of the Jerusalem Academic College of Engineering, is the first woman to hold this senior position at the Technion since its founding 85 years ago.

Mr. Yoram Alster, chairman of the executive committee (who was elected for a third three-year term), said that the decision to appoint Dr. Stein was made at the suggestion of the incoming Technion president, Professor Peretz Lavi, with the recommendation of a scientific committee and with the overwhelming approval of St. Technion. Avital Stein will assume her position at the beginning of 2010, after a period of overlap with the current Vice President and CEO, Professor Zvi Kochavi, who is retiring.

Dr. Stein received her doctorate from Tel Aviv University in 1995 in the field of mathematics education. Her master's thesis (with honors) at Tel Aviv University was in applied mathematics. She also holds a degree in business administration (MBA) with honors from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in the field of senior management with a specialization in banking, finance and the capital market.

Before assuming her position a decade ago as Vice President and CEO of the Jerusalem Academic College of Engineering, Dr. Stein worked in the private market in the field of finance - training and coaching - accounting, financial analysis, economics, statistics, mathematics and investments. Among its clients were leading banks and companies in the economy. In the years 1995-1997 she was a consultant for marketing and academic issues at the Israeli branch of the "London School of Economics" (London School of Economics) and engaged in performance research in the military industries in Israel. In parallel with her professional pursuits, Dr. Avital Stein holds various public positions in the fields of education, education and culture.

In the years 1970-1985 Avital Stein, born in Haifa, played in the basketball teams of "Maccabi" Haifa, "Hapoel" Haifa and "Maccabi" Tel Aviv and in the years 1976-1979 she was a member of the Israeli basketball team. She is married to attorney Shoki Stein and is a mother of four.
