This year will be held for the second time as part of the IMVC conference, a competition for students from the various universities and colleges, for the award for the outstanding research work in the field of computer vision image and video processing for 2012.

Among the works that will be presented this year, the autonomous vehicle project of a group of students from Ben Gurion University of the Negev stands out.

The goal of the project is to develop and explore the capabilities of robotic technologies to assist people in public places without the cost of placing employees (hosts, security guards, etc.). The project focuses on the automation and navigation of autonomous robots in public places such as parks, museums, shopping centers, universities, airports, etc. A prototype of the autonomous robot is based on a Segway platform with the ability to move autonomously and was developed at the LAR Autonomous Robotics Laboratory at Ben Gurion University of the Negev.

The robot uses several hardware systems at the same time: a XNUMXD camera based on TOF technology, a GPS receiver, a compass and a gyroscope. Using them, he is able to move in any environment while bypassing obstacles and avoiding stationary objects on the way and even update his movement route in real time and finally reach his destination according to the determined route.

The IMVC 2012 conference, which stands at the forefront of scientific technology in the field of Vision, will focus on the areas of image processing, video and computer vision and will present the advanced technologies of leading companies in the field, alongside innovative developments by start-up companies. The conference is being held for the third year, following on from the success of the previous conferences in which hundreds of visitors participated, including the top technological leaders in Israel.

The conference will be held at the Avenue, Kiryat Airport, on February 9, 2012.

  1. Instead of paying a security guard to stand there, they will have to pay the robot's technician.
