The space shuttle Atlantis with its six crew members landed this afternoon (15:48 Israel time) at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, after 12 days in space.
Mission STS-132 is the third of five missions planned for 2010 that will end the shuttle project as a whole, and the last programmed for Atlantis. The shuttle led to the station a mini Russian research laboratory known as Rasvet (Dawn in Russian), which will provide more storage volume and a new docking station for Russian Soyuz and Progress spacecraft.
The entire team consisted of veteran astronauts, some of whom had already retired from NASA and returned for this mission. The team was headed by Commander Ken Hamm and pilot Tony Antonelli and the other crew members who also performed spacewalks were Garrett Raisman, Michael Good, Steve Bowen and Pierce Sellers. In the first three walks, the astronauts focused on replacing and installing components outside the station, including six solar panels, installing a communications antenna and adding parts to the Canadian Dexter robotic arm.
