The STS-117 crew got an extra day in space thanks to the harsh weather conditions at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The space shuttle Atlantis has four landing opportunities tomorrow, the first of which is at 13:14 EST (20:14 Israel time) at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The second chance is at 15:51 (22:51) also in Kandy.
Thunderstorms in the vicinity of the Kennedy Space Center forced flight controllers to skip today's two landing opportunities. Controllers and forecasters will monitor the weather at all times at the Kennedy Space Center and Edwards Air Force Base in California.
If the weather in Florida does not cooperate, there are also two landing opportunities at Edwards - the first will be on lap 220 - at 17:21 EST (00:21 this Saturday), and the second and last - at 18:56 EST (01:56 ).

The space shuttle Atlantis will not land as planned at 20:55 Israel time but at the earliest at 22:30. The shuttle will circle the Earth one more time, to wait and see if the clouds covering its landing track dissipate. As we know, unlike an airplane, the shuttle is not able to maneuver when approaching the orbit and therefore must begin the descent from space, which lasts about an hour and a half, when the weather conditions are good enough.
We will come back and update

The shuttle Atlantis is on its way to Earth

The space shuttle Atlantis left the space station on its way to Earth. The shuttle arrived at the station on June 11 and it took four spacewalks to activate the components and remove the solar collectors from the old P6 component. During the third spacewalk, the team members replaced the heat protection tiles in the pod of the rocket engines used for space maneuvers.

Atlantis also brought a new crew member to the station - Clayton Anderson, who replaced Sonita Williams, whose flight (earlier this week) broke the record for a single female spaceflight, after arriving at the station in December aboard STS-116.
