The TAA, Elbit Systems and Rafael jointly established an association to promote the aviation and space industries in Israel

The union will work for the integration of the local industry in the important research and development programs conducted in Europe in particular and in the world in general

The leading industries in Israel in the field of aviation and space: IAI, Elbit Systems and Rafael established an association to promote the Israeli aviation and space industries - Aeronautics & Space Industries of Israel - ASII. Additional Israeli industries operating in this field are expected to join in the coming months.

The acting president of the corresponding union in Europe, ASD, the president of the Finmechanika concern Pier Francesco Guarguaglini and the director of the European R&D programs in the field of aviation Jack Metthey will serve as the guests of honor at the official launch event of the union that will take place next week at the Aerospace Industry under the auspices of Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Defense and Energy Ehud Olmert.

The union was established with the aim of strengthening the position of the Israeli industry dealing in the fields of air and space among parallel unions in the world in general and in Europe in particular, and to integrate the research and development bodies of the Israeli industries in parallel programs in the world. Integration into these programs may be a technological and marketing lever for Israeli companies and open new markets for them all over the world.

The establishment of the Israeli union is part of a global trend in which aerospace industries worldwide are joining together in organizations that have the ability to influence the main topics for research and development in the field and the distribution of resources allocated to this field. Clear examples of this are parallel associations in the member states of the European Union and the Association of European Air and Space Industries (ASD), which has a great influence on the determination of issues within the European R&D program.
The goals of the new union are:

A. The representation of Israeli industries in front of the corresponding super organizations in the world
B. Establishing the position of Israeli industries in the research and development community in the world
third. Developing the ability to influence the agenda of research and development programs in the world
d. The integration of Israeli industries in research programs and participation in the distribution of the resources allocated to these programs.

The presidency of the union will rotate between the CEOs of the three founding companies. In the next two years, Mr. Moshe Kerat, CEO of the Aerospace Industry, will serve as the union's president, followed by Mr. Yossi Akerman, CEO of Elbit Systems and then General Mill. Yedidia Yaari, CEO of Rafael.
Yoram Ilan-Lipovsky (Mil. Col.) was elected by the industries to the position of secretary of the union.

Minister Olmert noted that Israel is Europe's largest trading partner in the Mediterranean region and that European exports to it are almost equal to European exports to the other various countries in the region.

Minister Olmert noted that less than a year ago, a cooperation agreement was signed between Israel and the European Union, the main focus of which is industrial cooperation in the field of space (the Galileo project). This agreement guarantees a variety of collaborations between the Israeli space industry and other advanced industries and the corresponding European industries in a field of enormous commercial importance which in the coming years is expected to control market shares in the order of tens of billions.
It should be noted that a study conducted by the European Union indicates that in 2020 the global financial turnover in the field of global navigation is expected to reach over 200 billion euros compared to a few billions today, which also represent an increase of 25% in the last four years in this field. The field of applications itself is expected to reach a market size of 140 billion euros in 2015.

Moshe Kerat, CEO of the Aerospace Industry and President of the Israel Aerospace Industries Association, said that the goal of the association is to integrate the Israeli industry into the R&D programs that are being conducted in Europe in particular and in the world in general. Kerat also said that the union was established in order to operate in full partnership with the leading Israeli industries in cooperation with the European R&D organization. Kerat also stated that in the near future, other bodies from the academy and from those involved in the field of space in Israel will also be added.
Yossi Akerman, president of Elbit Systems, said during the ceremony that the establishment of the Israeli union is important first and foremost due to the partnership of the three leading industries in Israel in the field, and hopes that the cooperation between the companies will increase. Ackerman predicts that the ties with the European Union will open up additional opportunities for the Israeli defense industry both in Europe and in the entire world.
