British science fiction writer Arthur C. Clark died last night in Sri Lanka and he is 90 years old. The writer, born in the city of Somerset, became famous in 1968 when his short story - The Sentinel (The Sentinel) was turned into a movie: "2001: A Space Odyssey" by director Stanley Kubrick.

Clark's vision of the future, which involved space travel and advanced computers, captured the public's imagination. He died last night at 01:30 local time from a heart attack on the island that had been his home since 1956.

He first enlisted in civil service but during World War II he volunteered for the Air Force where he worked on secret developments of radar devices and predicted the capture of communication satellites. Clark's vivid and detailed descriptions of space shuttles, supercomputers and high-speed communication systems have been read by millions of readers worldwide.

In the 40s, he predicted that man would reach the moon before the year 2000, an idea that seemed far-fetched at the time. He published over a hundred fiction and non-fiction books. Many experts claim that he gave science fiction a human face.

  1. Continuation - for an anonymous user written by Boaz Ankri
Arthur, may your memory be blessed - one of a kind - there is no sign of another who can replace you - ever.

  2. We have lost the best writer and scientist in the entire history of science fiction - fiction.
Prophet and visionary Jules Verne of the 20th century who predicted the satellite, the Internet
And more prophecies that will be adjusted in the future.
Thank you Arthur brings you a special person like you and thanks to you we hope that the future will look different - you have contributed a lot to science.
In your works and in your scientific articles you never overlooked humanity despite the progress - you never gave up emphasizing the human side in your works.
As a child I read all your books eagerly and you stimulated my imagination to no end.
Your works are on the border of poetry. Sometimes I thought you were a poet and not a writer from the Bible.

  3. I wish we had such an option. We will have to make do with translations of conversations that others have made (can we ask him for rights?).
Also, someday I will try to translate (in text) the video segment that Clark broadcast to the world on YouTube on the occasion of his 90th birthday at the end of 2007. It is difficult to understand what he is saying, but from what we understand, he said very important things. He was very clear.

  4. Clark also wrote about the elevator to space... a cable that would stretch from a ship to a levin and on it they could drive spacecraft from the launch vehicle of a missile.

  5. It's unusual fun to write a fictional story, to fly on the wings of imagination without any limitations, and even to see some of your visions come true.
You sit in your heart and build your own world, with characters and rules as only you can want. In such a moment you become the God of the world you have built, the creation of your creatures and your world.
I had a little taste of the fiction writing experience and I know what I'm talking about.
I'm sorry he left us forever.

  6. A modern Jules Verne passed away today.

Hope all his dreams come true now.

Thank him for all his books and technological visions.
