The 43rd annual conference of the Israel Aviation and Space Association opened this morning (Wednesday) at the Dan Panorama Hotel. The conference will continue tomorrow, Thursday at the Technion.
The conference marked one hundred years of aviation and fifty years of the Israeli aviation industry, and was accompanied by an exhibition describing the history of the aviation industry from its early days as an inspection and maintenance company through the executive planes, fighter planes, satellites and satellite launchers.
The chairman of the organizing committee, Brigadier General Shimon Sharid opened the conference with a moment of silence in memory of Ilan Ramon. "This conference was supposed to be a welcome for Ilan Ramon and his team in honor of their return to Israel at the end of a successful scientific journey in space. Unfortunately, this did not happen," said Brigadier General Sherid.

The director general of the aviation industry Moshe Kerat summarized the fifty years of the aviation industry in a presentation. In a short conversation with journalists before the lecture, Kerat said: "The development that the aviation industry has gone through in these years, and especially in the last two decades, has closed the gap between us and the developed world and, at least in some areas, it is now in the first rank of the leading companies in the world. The vision for the next decades: to constantly be at the forefront of technology and innovation in the fields we are engaged in."
