A scientific cooperation agreement was signed between the Academies of Sciences of Israel and Lithuania

The academies in Israel and Lithuania will initiate conferences and workshops from time to time with the participation of eight to ten young and old researchers from each country. The agreement is valid until the end of 2020 and will be renewed at the end of this period with the consent of the Academies of Sciences of Israel and Lithuania

In a solemn ceremony held these days in Lithuania, an agreement for scientific cooperation was signed between the Israeli National Academy of Sciences and the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences. The ceremony was attended by the President of the Israeli National Academy of Sciences - Professor Neely Cohen, Israel's Ambassador to Lithuania - Amir Maimon; and Prof. Waldmaras Razumas - President of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences.

The agreement emphasizes the desire of the countries to promote academic cooperation, to initiate and encourage connections between researchers and scientists from both countries, to support and assist in visits by scientists and researchers from both countries, to promote improving and upgrading academic cooperation and understanding between academies and sciences. It was also decided in the agreement that the academies in Israel and Lithuania will initiate conferences and workshops from time to time with the participation of eight to ten young and old researchers from each country. The agreement is valid until the end of 2020 and will be renewed at the end of this period with the consent of the Academies of Sciences of Israel and Lithuania.

The president of the Israeli National Academy of Sciences, Prof. Neely Cohen mentioned the rich cultural heritage of Lithuanian Jewry, the horrors of the Holocaust and the hope upon signing the agreement for scientific cooperation. At the ceremony, she congratulated the existing cooperation between the scientists in Lithuania and Israel and said that she expects the strengthening of scientific relations following the signing of the agreement between the two academies of sciences in Lithuania and Israel.

Before the ceremony, in a meeting held in his office with the President of the Academy, the Prime Minister of Lithuania, Algirdas Botkevitz reviewed the research development in his country and said that he is fascinated by the achievements of the State of Israel in the field of research and innovation. He also noted that Lithuania is learning from Israel's successful experience in scientific cooperation with the European Union.
