A small bite from the sun - a partial solar eclipse will be visible this afternoon in the sky of Israel

Although next April another eclipse will be seen in our area, but it will be even more partial than today's. We will be able to see a more impressive eclipse here in 2027, but those who are waiting to see a full eclipse in Israel will have to wait until the 22nd century.

A partial solar eclipse will be visible in the afternoon in the sky of Israel. At the peak of the eclipse, at about 16:00 p.m., the moon hid about a fifth of the sun's face. A total eclipse will be visible in several places in the world, including Africa, the Arabian Peninsula and the east coast of North America. In Israel it was possible to see only the edges of the eclipse.

A solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the earth and the sun and hides all or part of it from us. The eclipse that occurred was partly total and partly annular - that is, at its peak the moon hid most of the sun leaving a ring of light around it. However, the full eclipse is seen mainly in Africa, in parts of the Arabian Peninsula and on the east coast of the USA.

We only see a partial eclipse. "Near the southwestern horizon at approximately 15:15 p.m., a black dot was seen beginning to gnaw at the lower part of the sun," said physicist Prof. Yoav Yair from the Department of Natural and Life Sciences at the Open University. "The peak of the eclipse came around 16:00, when the sun was quite low above the horizon, and then about 20% of it was hidden."

For those who gave up on this defect - too bad. Although next April another eclipse will be seen in our area, but it will be even more partial than today's. We will be able to see a more impressive eclipse here in 2027, but those who are waiting to see a full eclipse in Israel will have to wait until the 22nd century.
