Spectacular collision of galaxies

A beautiful new image of colliding galaxies was captured by three of NASA's largest space telescopes: Hubble, Chandra and Spitzer.

The antenna galaxies, which are 62 million light-years away from Earth, were compared here in a joint image of the three space observatories Chandra X-ray imager (blue colors in the image), the Hubble Space Telescope (golden colors) and Spitzer (red).

The collision that began 100 million years ago and is still ongoing, triggered the creation of millions of stars in clouds of dust and gas in these galaxies. The most massive stars in the clusters have already gone through all the stages of their evolution in several million years and exploded as supernovae.

X-ray images from Chandra show hot clouds of gas between hot stars ejected from the supernovae and carrying huge amounts of heavy elements. This enriched gas, all elements such as oxygen, iron, magnesium and nitrogen, will be incorporated into future generations of stars and planets. The bright point-like sources in the image are produced by material falling into black holes and neutron stars that are the remnants of massive stars. Some of these black holes have nearly 100 times the mass of the Sun.

Spitzer's data show infrared light coming out in the form of gas heated by the radiation of neighboring stars, with the brightest clouds being in the overlapping region of the two galaxies. The Hubble data reveal old stars in red, as well as dust fills in brown and star forming regions in yellow and white. Most of the pale objects in Hubble's optical image are clusters containing thousands of stars.

The antenna galaxies received their oil from the so-called antenna arms visible in wide-angle photographs of the system. The formations are produced by tidal waves created by the collision.

  1. for 3 (Yoav)
I think faith is a choice, just like you can't tell someone that they have bad taste in music, they mean that music is something that you choose and if you like that music
And your personal opinion is good music, no one can tell you otherwise. You can say that there are different styles of music and those that are more difficult to play, the same thing in your religion, your opinion is yours and your faith is yours!

  2. Well, then I'm not worried until then man alone will have already annihilated himself from the world... Thank you Father!

  3. Why are the pictures of the article always so small? Can't increase? And also that sometimes the magnification is not something...

    Like what's up?

  4. Daniel, now you're appropriating your god-like God to other galaxies as well?!
    What will?
I was hoping that when we find that there is life in the universe like garbage you will leave us already with this god of yours, but
Surely even then you will say "this royal hero created us too, as it is said in the Torah blah blah blah...".
You won't get off us huh?
