Free computer time is donated to research that will help fight cancer

ICA

IBM, with the blessing of the Cancer Society, launched an initiative in Israel that allows personal computer users and businesses to donate their unused computing resources to aid in research aimed at developing methods and drugs to fight cancer.

As part of IBM's World Community Grid (World Community Grid) project, computer owners are asked to donate their computing resources, while the computers are not required to work at full load, for the purposes of research, through Internet communication.

The project called "Help Defeat Cancer" is the highlight of the list of non-profit projects launched by IBM for humanitarian purposes.

Meir Nissenson, CEO of IBM, called on computer users in Israel in every home and organization and business to make available their free computing resources for this important purpose.

Miri Ziv, CEO of the Association to Fight Cancer, congratulations on the opportunity that IBM provides for computer users in Israel to participate and contribute to the worldwide research effort for cancer research. Ziv stated that: "Cancer has no geographical boundaries, therefore any research achievement in the field of prevention, diagnosis or treatment of cancer will contribute at the international level"

To date, over a quarter of a million people and institutions around the world who operate more than 400,000 computers, running under Windows, Linux or Mac, have joined the operation. The amount of data processed so far is equal to about 60 years of processing by a single computer.

The "Help to beat cancer" project is expected to help improve the understanding of the mechanism underlying the development of cancer, in a way that will lead to better treatments and treatment plans for patients.

Donating to the project is done by registering on the website: www.worldcommunitygrid.org and downloading software that integrates the donor's computer into the global network.
