A new Freescale chip will improve safety in vehicles

Freescale announced the MFR4200 FlexRay, a new controller for safety and entertainment systems in vehicles. By establishing the FlexRay protocol as a leading standard in the vehicle industry, car manufacturers will be able to save on production costs, centralize and simplify the electronic control systems, and also increase the level of stability and safety in the various vehicle models.

The MFR4200 was designed to improve the performance of the vehicle systems and their speed, thereby also improving the safety level of the vehicle, by a faster response of the electronic safety systems. The MFR4200 is of the type that calculates data at a speed ten times greater than the CAN (Controller Area Network) solutions currently available on the market.

"As the number of controllers in the safety systems increases, so does the need for faster communication between the components." Says Chris Webber, Vice President of Automotive Research at Strategy Analytics, "The MFR4200 represents an important and well-timed investment by Freescale," and the giant companies in the automotive industry have already agreed to integrate the FlexRay protocol into their products in the near future.

"We believe that the FlexRay will be the default for fast control applications in vehicles", says Shmuel Barkan, joint CEO of Freescale Israel and director of marketing and sales in Israel, Greece, Turkey and Africa, "the list of car manufacturers, who want and are ready to implement the FlexRay is already growing day by day and includes, among others, companies such as Toyota, Ford, BMW, Audi and Volkswagen.
