The SpaceShipOne private rocket plane adapted for tri-orbital flights made its second flight with a rocket engine yesterday.
The spacecraft-plane built by Scaled Composites of Mojave, California is a manned vehicle powered by a combined liquid and solid fuel engine. The vehicle reached an altitude of 105,000 feet (about 30 kilometers). The engine burned for 40 seconds, reaching a peak speed of Mach 2 - or twice the speed of sound over the skies of the Mojave Desert.
The second test flight of SpaceShipOne was piloted by Peter Siebold.
No details were provided about the flight, although the company only agreed to confirm that the flight did take place and that details would be provided later.

The American Aviation Authority has approved a private flight into space

The US Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) has given licenses to the company Scaled Composites for the suborbital flight of a rocket-aircraft manufactured by it called SpaceShipOne. The license paves the way for the company's participation in the X-prize competition later this year.
X-prize is a competition in which the prize is 10 million dollars for the first non-governmental organization that succeeds in launching three people into orbit twice within two weeks with private funding.
Claiming the prize, the spacecraft SpaceShipOne will have to reach an altitude of 100 kilometers - the official limit of space.

The FAA has given Scaled Composites a license that allows it to expand the test flights of SpaceShipOne - a privately funded rocket plane designed to take passengers into space. The director of Scaled Composites is Brett Rutan, who was behind the design of the Voyager - the first plane to circumnavigate the world without intermediate landings and refueling.
SpaceShipOne and its mother ship, White Knight, were first shown to the public on April 18, 2003. Since then, it has been subjected to intensive testing, and during one powered flight it broke the speed of sound. The spacecraft-plane uses a hybrid rocket engine that combines solid fuel and liquid fuel. SpaceShipOne has also carried out landing flights, the last of which took place last month.
Last December it was announced that the multi-billionaire Paul Allen, co-founder of Microsoft is one of the main investors in the project.
The X-prize was founded in 1996 and many teams entered the competition. The analysts predict that the award will be claimed for the first time this year and Scaled Composites is the favorite.

First license for a private spaceship in the USA

By: Walla system!

The American government announced yesterday the granting of the first license to a privately owned manned rocket, a first step in starting the journey to space for a person from the settlement. The Federal Aviation Authority granted a license for one year to a company called "Scaleed Composites" from California, which aims to provide flights at a reasonable price, during the next decade. The license will allow the company to fly its spacecraft to an altitude of about 96 km.

The company from California previously developed the "Voyager" plane that completed the first flight, without refueling or stops, around the world in 1986. The aircraft that received the preliminary license, consists of two parts: a rocket plane that was given the surprising name "One Spaceship", and the "White Knight", a jet plane designed to carry the first component for a high-altitude launch. "One spaceship" reached an altitude of 20 km in a test flight.

Advertisement The license to fly into space is a prerequisite for participating in the "X-Prize" competition, an international race that will award ten million dollars to whoever will be the first to reach space in a manned aircraft, and will do so a second time within two weeks. The spacecraft should be suitable for carrying three people and capable of reaching an altitude of about 100 km. Besides the company from California, the American aviation director is checking the candidacy of two other companies, one of which is also interested in participating in the competition.

So far, 27 candidates have been registered for the space flight competition, which opened in 1996 and is financed by private entities that established the X Foundation. The American millionaire, Dennis Tito, who was the first tourist in space, is one of the heads of the fund. Other members of her, the veteran astronaut John Glenn, the actor Tom Hanks and the grandson of the pilot who crossed the Atlantic Ocean, Charles Lindbergh.
