The Russian space agency will demand from NASA to increase the funding for the International Space Station, so that it can be staffed with six astronauts instead of two as is customary now.
If the US increases the funding, Russia will have to send another spacecraft that will dock at the space station permanently, so that it can be used in an emergency.
"It will be essential to launch another escape spacecraft," says Alexander Medvanchikov, deputy director of the Russian space agency Roscosmos.
"The Americans tried to order another Soyuz spacecraft from Roscosmos", he added, and also confirmed that NASA's request was blocked in Washington due to the ban on transferring technologies and funds to Russia because it transfers sensitive technology to Iran. "I hope we find a quick solution to the problem," he added.
He also said that manned launches on Soyuz spacecraft from French Guinea could also become a reality, but it would have an additional cost compared to the launches from Baikonur in Kazakhstan.
In 2003, Russia and France signed an agreement to use Soyuz rockets for unmanned flights - mainly for launching commercial satellites, which originated in 2008
