Spain: A tunnel will connect Europe and Africa

Spain and Morocco have reached an agreement to build a 28-kilometer railway tunnel under the surface of the Mediterranean Sea, which will connect the two countries - the Spanish Minister of Infrastructure said yesterday in Madrid.
This is actually the second tunnel (if completed) that will connect Europe with another continent, after the English Channel connecting the English Isles with France. 28 kilometers of the planned canal will pass under the Straits of Gibraltar, which separate the southern coast of Spain from North Africa. The site was chosen because the Mediterranean Sea in this area is only 300 meters deep.
The Ministry of Infrastructure said in an official statement that the planned tunnel will enable a rail connection between the two countries, similar to the underwater tunnel connecting England and France. No further details have been provided at this time.
