Celera is close to deciphering the mouse genome

22/10/2000
It is hoped that precisely understanding the genome of the experimental animal will bring closer the knowledge about the function of the genes that have been deciphered in the human body

About 95 percent of the genetic sequencing of three strains of mice has been completed. Each mouse genome is made up of a son sequence
9.3 billion base pairs, or the "letters of the genetic code" of DNA. Completion of the study
In this regard, in the hands of the American biotechnology company Celera Genomics, it will be possible to use the mouse genome as a model for various studies aimed at developing new medicines for humans.
The mouse is used in this topic as an "accurate-substitute-for-human" since its genome is substantially identical to that of man and simpler than it.
"Celera" is the same company that in July of this year announced that it had almost completed the construction of the human genome, that is, to present the complete human genetic code and its mapping in order and in the correct location.

A public scientific corporation that dealt with a similar issue (building the complete genetic model of a mouse) announced that it is dealing with another species of mice for research purposes and will publish the results of its work in February.
