It sounds like something out of a sci-fi movie, tiny robots that help perform complex surgeries. But many operating rooms in the world have already begun to operate such micro-robots, especially in complicated and delicate brain surgeries.

The tiny robots, whose dimensions are 25x25x15 cm, make it possible to perform operations that a human hand, even the most skilled, is unable to perform. They connect to a laser device with powerful light energy, and make it possible to make cuts and burns of blood vessels with a high precision of up to a hundredth of a millimeter. The doctor who conducts the operation watches all its steps on the computer monitor, and marks on it where to move the cutting laser beam.

The robot directs the laser in its exact path of movement according to the doctor's prescription.

Micro-robots will be presented for the first time in Israel at the Microtech 2003 exhibition, which will be held in Tel Aviv between October 28-30. The devices were brought to Israel by the Go-Tech company, a representative of Physik Instrument.
