Yesterday (Friday, 2.12.05) the defense system conducted another test of the arrow system. According to security officials, the experiment was successful. As part of the test at 10:28 a.m., a "Black Anchor" missile was launched towards Israel, from the heart of the Mediterranean Sea - a missile that simulates a target missile similar to the Iranian Shihab 3 missile capable of carrying a nuclear warhead.

After the launch, the "Green Pine" system - a powerful radar stationed at the base in the center of the country - detected the missile moving towards Israel, and it transmitted a launch command to the Arrow system. A dart missile was launched at the dummy missile and it was reported that it hit the target. During these hours, the security system performs operations to analyze the findings.

The head of the "Hatz" weapon system project at the MLM plant of the Aerospace Industry (TAA), Boaz Levy, said at the end of the successful test today that "there was another great success of the 'Hatz' weapon system against a target that simulates the threats in our regions, and is an extreme scenario to the capabilities of the system".

This is the 14th test of the "Arrow" interceptor and the ninth test of the weapon system. Not all ended successfully. Representatives of the defense establishment, the defense industries involved in the project, as well as the operational unit of the Air Force took part in the experiment. The "Arrow" system has been operational since 2000 and is in continuous development, the aim of which is to adapt the system's performance to the relevant threats.

The Arrow is a joint project between Israel and the US and is designed to provide Israel with protection against ballistic missiles. Billions of dollars are invested in the project. The project is managed by the "Wall" administration in the Military Weapons and Technological Infrastructure Development Administration (MPAAT) in the Ministry of Defense in cooperation with the Ballistic Missile Defense Administration in the US Department of Defense.

A few months ago, the security establishment held a large-scale exercise, together with forces of the US army, which simulated the launch of missiles towards Israel. As part of the exercise, a "virtual" launch of Arrow missiles was carried out at the targets, and Patriot missiles were actually launched.

The defense establishment states that the "Oran Yerok" radar is capable of detecting the launch of ballistic missiles towards the State of Israel from a long distance even at an early stage of their launch, and tracking them during their flight while guiding the "Arrow" missiles towards them, which enables the destruction of the missile The threatening high altitude and far from the borders of the State of Israel.

The system is able to locate and track, simultaneously, a large number of targets fired from different airports towards Israel, and report them to the control and control center of the "Arrow" system. After the radar detects the launch of a missile towards Israel, a threat assessment is immediately carried out, in cooperation with the control and control center of the "Arrow" system, to determine the threat level of each missile and destroy the targets according to the priority of urgency.

The "Arrow" system is part of the anti-aircraft system of the Israeli Air Force and part of the defense circuits of the State of Israel against the threat of TK. The "Arrow" has been operational since 2000 and is in continuous development, the goal of which is to adapt the system's performance to the relevant threats.

The main contractor for the development of the system is the MLM plant of the aviation industry. The system includes: "Oran Yerok" warning and fire control radar manufactured by Elta, the fire control system "Etrog-Zahav" manufactured by Tadiran Systems, a launcher control center "Nut-Hoom", an operational launcher and missiles manufactured by TAA/MLM. Also participating in the experiment were components produced by the TEA, TAS (first stage engine), Rafael, the "Black Anchor" target and second stage engine and more. The "Arrow" weapon system is operational in the Air Force and was operated by the 'Protective Sword' soldiers in the anti-aircraft formation.
