For most of us, the best ideas emerge when we are in a state of nim-na-nim, in the tiredness before sleep. It is therefore not surprising that a survey conducted in the United Kingdom found that most workers see bed as a more creative space than the office. According to a study on behalf of the East Anglia Development Agency, published by the BBC, 30% of respondents get their best ideas in bed, compared to 11% it happens to them in the office.
The research directors suggest that companies install beds in the workplace to be more efficient. According to the authors of the study, entitled "The art of dozing at work" we live in a "drowsy culture" but gradually the approach to the subject is changing and the bed may soon be part of the office furniture.
The authors of the study, Bill and Camilla Anthony, claim that employees are always ready to take a nap and they often realize their ambition. Therefore, according to the researchers, an employer who allows his employees to take a nap will only benefit from it. "Many steal naps at work, but boss-approved naps are the next trend," says Bill Anthony, a professor at Boston University.
Anthony explains that "drowsing is a natural and cheap phenomenon to increase the employee's productivity. More companies can't turn a blind eye to the epidemic of drowsiness on the job."
Richard Weissman, professor of psychology, says that research shows that the brain is more creative in a state of relaxation, so managers should change work habits to help increase creativity. "In our dreams we produce unusual combinations of ideas, which sometimes seem surreal, but every now and then an unusually creative solution to an important problem emerges," explains Prof. Weissman.
