In the study, published last Tuesday in a medical journal, no connection was found between cell phone use and cancerous brain tumors. The study was conducted in Denmark and published by the American Neurological Association.
As part of the study, 427 people with brain tumors and 822 people without brain tumors were asked about their cell phone usage habits. The researchers found no relationship between the appearance of brain tumors and the frequency of cell phone use or the number of years it was used. Nor was there any evidence that the tumor tends to appear precisely on the side where the cell phone is usually held.

The findings are similar to those discovered in other studies - says Dr. Christopher Johansen from the Danish Cancer Society, who is one of the authors of the study. "Certain studies have indeed found a greater risk of having brain tumors as a result of cell phone use, but these studies were problematic in terms of their structure."

Still, Dr. Johansen fears that the new study included too few people who have been using the cell phone for more than ten years. "Unequivocal conclusions cannot be reached until heavy users, for many years, have been tested on the cell phone" - adds Dr. Johansen.

Despite the findings, Dr. Johansen recommends using a speakerphone to avoid possible risks.
