New research rules out wrist syndrome

At the end of a long day of working on the computer, it is quite possible that you feel pain in your wrist, but it is not necessarily wrist syndrome.

Contrary to popular opinion, heavy use of the computer, up to seven hours a day, does not increase the risk of the user developing the syndrome, according to a new study, the results of which were published last Wednesday by the Harvard University Medical School. This is because the syndrome, which was first published in the nineties, is usually due to hereditary reasons and is related to body weight, fractures and pregnancy and not to prolonged stress.

However, office workers are still at risk, because improper computer use and other conditions in the workplace can cause injuries related to prolonged stress. Pains resulting from incorrect posture are not limited to the hands, and can also appear in the neck, shoulders and other body parts. Wrist syndrome affects 2 to 3 percent of the population, and the number of women who suffer from it is almost double the number of men.
