Scientists have grown human breast tissue on a mouse - and they hope that in this way they will be able to better understand how, why and at what stages breast cancer develops in women. The unique scientific achievement was determined by a team of researchers in the field of biomedicine from the "Whitehead" Institute in Boston, United States.
The entire process of breast tissue formation in mice is similar to that in humans, the researchers reported in a report to the official journal of the American Academy of Sciences.
In the laboratory, the same tubular cells in which breast milk is produced were also developed in the human breast tissue cells on the mouse. The study confirms a hypothesis about the way in which small islands of genetically abnormal cells form in the breast, and they develop over time into cancer cells.
