Neither solar radiation nor a volcanic eruption - humans are responsible for global warming

The news agencies, news and voila!

Scientists have found the first unequivocal link between human-made greenhouse gases and significant warming of the oceans. The studies revealed an "amazing" correspondence between the increase in the temperature of the oceans in the last 40 years and the pollution of the atmosphere.
The results of the study were published yesterday at the annual committee of the "American Association for the Advancement of Science", which was held in Washington. The researchers, scientists from the "Scripps Institute for Ocean Research" in California and the "Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory", published in the committee the "most complete evidence to date" that human activity is responsible for global warming.

Tim Burnett, the head of the study, explained how the current study differs from previous studies on the subject. According to him, previous studies, which examined the influence of humans on global warming, tried to find evidence of this in the atmosphere. "But the atmosphere is the worst place to look for signals of global warming," he said. "90% of the energy from global warming has reached the oceans, and they show its 'fingerprints' in a much better way than can be seen in the atmosphere."

The scientists discovered that the "warming signals" in the oceans were created by the accumulation of man-made carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere. According to them, other natural factors, not created by man, would have led to completely different results.

To reach these conclusions, the scientists analyzed more than seven million ocean temperature data around the world along with about two million sea salinity data. They compared the temperature rise data at different depths to the predictions of two models, which predicted the effect of greenhouse gases - for which humans are responsible - on the warming of the earth. According to Brent, "the two models, one made according to data taken in the US and the other in the UK, corresponded almost exactly to the results obtained in reality".

At the same time, it became clear that natural factors, unrelated to the involvement of humans, do not have a similar effect on the warming of the oceans. The scientists examined the effect of factors such as climate change, solar radiation and volcanic eruption on the warming of the oceans, and found that they have no significant effect.

The study contradicts the main argument of those in the current American administration, who question the influence of humans on global warming, and believe that warming is a natural phenomenon. According to the scientists, the new findings should convince US President George Bush to withdraw his opposition to the Kyoto Treaty, which seeks to limit greenhouse gas emissions.

The US produces a quarter of the world's greenhouse gases, but it is one of the only developed countries in the world that has not signed the Kyoto Convention. Bush's advisors argued that the science of global warming is inaccurate, and that the changes in climate may be caused by natural causes.

According to Burnett, the current study is, "probably the most complete evidence yet that global warming is happening right now, and it even demonstrates that we can successfully simulate its development in the past and in the future." We have a serious problem. The debate no longer concerns the question 'are there signs of global warming?', but the question 'what are we going to do about it?'"
