A faulty battery is one of the most likely causes of the crash landing of the Genesis space capsule.

NASA experts are expected to hold a press conference tonight in which they will announce that they managed to find some remains from the Genesis research capsule, which remained intact.

The capsule crashed this week due to a malfunction, but it may be possible to extract from it at least parts of the information it collected in space following the finding of the new parts.
Scientists removed the bits of soil and mud that surrounded the damaged capsule after it crashed at high speed into the Utah desert on Wednesday. They are still optimistic that something can still be salvaged from the mission, which was designed to bring particles from the solar wind to Earth.
Engineers are testing the theory that a battery that overheated earlier in the mission caused the crash.
The battery was designed to produce an electric charge that would activate explosives responsible for releasing the spacecraft's parachutes designed to slow down its speed upon entering the atmosphere. The capsule was supposed to be caught in the air by helicopter pilots working as stuntmen in Hollywood.
