The astronauts aboard the International Space Station will perform a spacewalk on Thursday instead of the one that was canceled last week due to an oxygen leak. This is what the Russian space agency said.
Michael Finke and Gennady Padalka will leave the station at 1:40 a.m. Moscow time on July 1 (00:40 Israel time) for six hours during which they will perform repairs on the outside of the station.
Repairs were due to take place last Thursday, but fifteen minutes after they began they were called off after Pinky's oxygen supply leaked into space. According to him, it was later discovered that this was due to a broken switch.
The pair will replace the switch that disabled one of the four gyroscopes that keep the 200-ton station stable and its solar collectors pointing toward the sun.
Finca and Padalka will use hand signals to communicate with each other during the delicate repair process if they cannot hear each other over the radio.
