Is Mars contaminated with bacteria from Earth?

Life on Mars may be Earth-made.
An American scientist believes that if the presence of life on Mars is proven, their origin may be much closer to us than we thought until now.
"I believe that there is life on Mars, and that it is there unequivocally because we sent it," says Andrew Schuerger, in an article published in the journal New Scientist.

The scientist from the University of Florida said that there is a good chance that bacteria from Earth caught a ride to Mars on spaceships.
Shurger says that of all the spacecraft launched to Mars, only two Viking spacecraft launched in 1976 were heat sterilized. The processes used in all missions since then, including the two current vehicles and the British Beagle 2 may have allowed the survival of bacteria on board.
"The bacteria will almost certainly not survive in the cold of about 200 degrees Kelvin (around minus seventy degrees Celsius) and in a sulfuric acid environment," says Jeff Cargel of the American Geological Survey. Cargel says that pools and salts of acidic salt water may exist on Mars, but he told New Scientist: "The bacteria may have arrived and we may have done something terrible."
