The algorithm of Professors Yaakov Ziv and Abraham Lampel of the Technion was recognized as a "milestone" in the development of electronics in the world, by the International Union of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. The president of the union, which has more than 360,000 members, will arrive in Israel next month, to remove the lot from the "milestone", which will be placed in the historic building of the Technion in Haifa.
The algorithm, which was published in 1977, makes it possible to compress information transmitted by electronic communication, thus reducing the time required to transmit the information without losing any of its content.
