Voila system!

A Belgian clinic offers families across continental Europe to pre-select the sex of their child using a controversial technique - so reports the British newspaper "The Observer". According to the publications, the clinic offers the service, which is provided in secret, to parents of one or more children who want their next child to be of the opposite sex.

The process of choosing the sex of the child does not constitute a violation of the law on the part of the clinic or the parents. However, the fact that the clinic uses a controversial sperm sorting process, the medical consequences of which are still not fully known, arouses great concern among experts in the field of fertility treatments. The head of the Fertility and Embryology Authority in Great Britain, Susie Leder, said yesterday that she is concerned about the fact that British citizens are undergoing treatments that may prove to be unsafe outside the country's borders.

The director of the clinic located in the Belgian city of Ghent, Professor Frank Komheier, offers the sperm sorting technique to couples all over Europe. For an amount of 6,300 dollars, his clients receive a consultation, taking a sperm sample from the man and sending the samples to a laboratory in the USA. The lab staff said that using laser technology they separate seeds that carry the male chromosome (Way) and those that carry the female chromosome (X).

At the end of the procedure, the laboratory sends the sperm back to Belgium, where the mother's eggs are fertilized with sperm carrying the desired sex. According to the "balanced family" approach, the desired offspring must be of the opposite sex of the parent's child or children.

75% success for boys - 91% for girls

Professor Comhair told the Observer reporter who posed as a potential client, that the chances of success are 91 percent if the requested gender is a girl, and 75 percent if there is a demand for a male child. The clinic manager refused to give details about the success of the treatment. This, on the grounds that this is a relatively new procedure and that it must protect the patients' privacy. However, he added: "I am sure that the treatment method is reliable. We do everything we can to take care of our customers with the utmost care and concern, and provide them with high-level services."
