Sunflower oil may replace the oil

British scientists have succeeded in extracting energy from sunflower oil that will be used to run cars. Using technology will significantly reduce air pollution

Scientists in the UK claim to have discovered a new and more environmentally friendly way to operate cars and household products. According to them, the solution lies in the use of sunflower oil, the same oil used for cooking and frying. In their appearance before the members of the American Chemical Society in Philadelphia, researchers from the University of Leeds presented yesterday a way in which the hydrogen needed for the production of fuel cells can be extracted from sunflower oil and thus become a source of energy.

The fuel cell is a battery spring that is able to generate electricity without burning and without pollution. The main byproducts that are formed inside the fuel cell are water and carbon dioxide, both of which are extremely environmentally friendly.

"We use a process that mixes sunflower oil with steam that goes through a catalytic process to produce fuel cells, without the emission of carbon dioxide so that it can be renewed" said researcher Ian Hanley.

"Currently we use pure sunflower oil, but according to the design we can use any type of oil, such as linseed oil or peanut oil. In the end, he intends to use wasted oil, the kind thrown away by restaurants and factories that produce food." Hanley added.

The British researchers said that with the rise in prices of energy products derived from oil, they hope that interest in their new method of creating energy will increase. "We produce hydrogen from sunflower oil, which seems to us to be a more realistic energy source. With the development of the bioenergy infrastructure in places like France and Germany, it seems to us that there is potential here," the researchers added.

Using fuel cells will reduce air pollution

The researchers believe that the fuel cells will eventually become a worthy substitute for oil and gas and will produce energy without air pollution. They are already in use in many countries, but their use is limited because the hydrogen needed to operate them usually comes from burning fossils.

Environmental experts believe that investing in fuel cell technology can lead to a dramatic decrease in air pollution. However, it is widely believed that it will take between ten and twenty years for the technology to become widespread.
