From a new study published in the journal "cancer research" a few days ago, it appears that an ingredient in the extract of the drug marijuana may be useful in curing brain tumors and other types of cancer.
The research team led by Manuel Guzman from Complutense University in Spain, published its findings after conducting a study on 30 laboratory mice and two subjects. The study showed that the ingredient in the marijuana extract, a cannabinoid called delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, succeeds in inhibiting the development of the blood vessels that feed the cancer tumor. The development of a blood vessel network to feed the tumor (angiogenesis) is one of the conditions for the development of cancerous tumors. The ingredient discovered in the marijuana extract succeeds in blocking a key ingredient in the angiogenesis process and thus "suffocates" the tumor and does not allow its further development.

The British journal "New Scientist" reports that the research provides a leading compound for the development of a new anti-cancer drug.
