NASA has authorized the space shuttle Atlantis to land on Earth. This is after the tests conducted did not show that the shuttle suffered any damage from space debris that passed by it. The astronauts on the shuttle Atlantis saw several small objects floating in space outside the spacecraft.
It was this discovery that on Tuesday led to the postponement of the landing scheduled for Wednesday.
NASA officials expressed joy and relief, but in any case, at no point so far does it appear that the debris caused damage to the shuttle.
"The spacecraft is in good condition and we intend to work on returning the shuttle tomorrow," astronaut Terry Virtis said in a conference call with NASA administrators. The shuttle's first landing opportunity at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida is expected for today - Wednesday, 13:21 Israel time. The Astronauts used the robotic arm and the camera system mounted on it to examine the shuttle's heat shield and determine if it was damaged.
