New: ID number for each vegetable

The number will allow the consumer to find the farmer's name, address and phone number on the Internet and to contact him directly

Consumers who are afraid of buying fruits and vegetables that do not have a "father" and whose origin is unknown, will now be able to find the name of the farmer who grew the produce, his address, phone number and e-mail address via the Internet and contact him directly in case of questions or defects in the quality of the produce they purchased.

The vast majority of agricultural produce is sold in Israel in bulk without the consumer and sometimes the seller not knowing where and when the fruits and vegetables came from. Another part is sold in packages marked by the packing house, but even then the consumer and sometimes the packing house cannot locate the farmer himself if necessary.

The company "Derech HaLaborato", which deals with the supervision and control of fruits and vegetables against the invention of pesticides and harmful chemicals, has started a project in which vegetables and fruits are marked with an identity number that varies from package to package. The identity number can be entered on the website of the Lab-path www.lab-path.co.il and immediately receive the farmer's name, address, telephone number and e-mail address so that he can be contacted directly and asked about the cultivation method . The website shows the date of the last inspection and inspection carried out by the farmer. The vegetables marked with an identification number can be purchased in the private vegetable stores and soon also in the Shufersal chain, which has upgraded the inspection system for the agricultural produce.

Receiving the identity number requires the growing farmer to comply with a series of rules and tests to ensure maximum cleanliness of the produce when it reaches the markets. The rules were established according to the standards used both for Israeli exports and in Europe and the United States and are anchored in a binding agreement. The farmer receives instructions on when he must stop using each of the pesticides so that the substance breaks down by the time of harvest and he must keep a spraying diary in which the dates and substances used are recorded. In addition, the farmer and the entire marketing chain between him and the consumer are required to undergo surprise tests performed by the people of "Derech HaLaboratory". Discovering an anomaly results in the stopping of marketing from the problematic lot - something that can be done without difficulty since the product is marked
