Scientists in Germany reported that Viagra was successfully tried among mountain climbers in the Himalayas, who are trying to conquer Everest - the highest peak in the world. The reason: this preparation dramatically reduces the blood pressure in the lungs - a condition that climbers experience at high altitudes, due to low levels of oxygen.

In the experiment, in which 12 men and 2 women participated, all professional mountain climbers accompanied by their Nepali guides - Viagra was tested for this purpose, and it was a great surprise. The head of the research team, from the University Hospital in the city of Giessen, said that Viagra relieved the climbers of what is known as "altitude sickness". This is caused by exposure to heights of over 4000 to 4500 meters above sea level (professional climbers are trained to overcome this up to a height of over 5000 meters). The height of Everest, for those who have forgotten - over 8800 meters.

The drop in atmospheric pressure and the lack of oxygen in such high mountains cause more labored breathing, which makes it difficult for the blood to circulate. It also manifests itself in nausea, headaches, dizziness, other severe breathing disorders and anxiety.

The mountain climbers who took Viagra (one pill a day), improved their climbing ability beyond recognition. Their hearts also worked more efficiently.

The manufacturer of Viagra earned $1.9 billion from the pill last year. It was given to the treatment of impotence mainly to those aged 55 and over, but in the last year it has become especially popular with young people under that age, who have no problem with it - and despite warnings from doctors, they take it "to improve performance".

Users under the age of 45 bought three times more pills last year than five years ago, the year the "blue" appeared on the market.

Viagra currently has a competitor called "Cialis" produced by Eli Lilly and Aikos and "Levitra" developed by GlaxoSmith-Kline together with Bayer.
