NASA scientists have recalculated the trajectory of the asteroid Appois and significantly reduced the chance that it will hit the Earth. According to the Hadami data, the trajectory of the asteroid may hit the Earth in 2036 with a chance of 1 in 250 thousand, and not 1 in 45 thousand as previously thought. At first it was believed that Apophis had a 2.7% risk of colliding with Earth in 2029. Additional calculations ruled out a collision in 2029.
The updated orbit determination strengthens the hypothesis that Apopois is an asteroid, and we must take the opportunity to say that it is not to be feared, says Don Yeomans, director of the Near-Earth Object Project at JPL.
