Yesterday, Monday (18.5) a ministerial exchange ceremony was held at the Ministry of Science and Technology in the capacity of the incoming minister, MK Yizhar Shai and the outgoing minister, MK Ofir Akunis.

Yizhar Shay (55) is married and the father of four, a resident of the Kadima settlement in Sharon. He is an electrical engineer graduated from the Technion. He served in the paratroopers (Battalion 890) as a fighter in the First Lebanon War and as an officer in the military school. He was born in Kibbutz Ein Hasholsha in the Negev and grew up most of his childhood years in Jerusalem. In February 2019, recognizing the importance of the public mission, Yizhar Shai joined the Hosan Israel party (12th place) and together with it the Blue and White faction (20th place).

Shai was a managing partner in the venture capital fund Canaan Partners Israel, served as a board member in promising start-up companies, and was a partner in several impressive exits. Before joining as a venture capital fund partner, Yizhar was CEO and Chairman of V-Secure, and before that Yizhar was the founder and CEO of Business Layers. Both of these companies went through a successful exit under his management. Shay was selected for the list of 70 influential people in Israeli hi-tech, by Gigtime. Also, Shai was included in the list of 70 people who are examples and models in Israeli high-tech, in a special project held in honor of the country's 20th Independence Day. In addition, the VCFORU community defined Yizhar Shai as one of the top XNUMX investors in Israel for the early stages.

Minister of Science and Technology, MK Yizhar Shai: "I approach my new role with reverence and gratitude for the privilege of working in an office that largely reflects my personal work and my interests over the past thirty years. It is a great honor and privilege for me to work here, and to strengthen the position of the State of Israel as the nation of science, technology and innovation and building the next generation of scientists, researchers and engineers. I would like to extend special thanks to the outgoing Minister Ofir Akunis who led this ministry to extraordinary achievements in his tenure here. I thank all of you for your faithful work at the Ministry of Science and Technology and promise that we will continue to work hard, together."
"The activity of the office and the international agreements signed over the years are not only important on the technological side, but are very significant for the strategic strength of the State of Israel as the nation of innovation and startups." Shay added.

Shay noted that during the outgoing minister's tenure, the ministry became a significant focus, which does one of the most important things: making science accessible to all Israeli citizens. "I saw in one of the brochures presented to me before I took office, that no less than half a million Israelis were exposed to the variety of activities of the ministry, in all fields. The science basket, supporting student expeditions to robotics competitions, summer camps, and more are part of the ministry's goals, along with making science accessible to the periphery, and they are close to my heart," said the minister, adding: "I enter the position with reverence and am grateful for the privilege given to me to work in a field that I am already close to 30 years, because hi-tech for me is not just a way of life, but one of the symbols of the State of Israel."

The outgoing Minister of Science and Technology, MK Ofir Akunis: "Today I finish my duties as Minister of Science and Technology after 4 years and 8 months. We met for the first time in September 2015 and since then we have come a long and successful way together. I would not exaggerate if I say that during this time we broke records of activity for the Israeli public, the likes of which have not been seen since the establishment of the office. When I took office, I set two main goals that I put at the top of the list of priorities: the first is to make science and technology accessible to all Israeli citizens. The second goal I set is to deepen Israel's international ties and sign new agreements with countries all over the globe. By transferring the office, I know that we have fully met the goal of making science and technology accessible to all citizens of Israel, wherever they are. Jews and non-Jews, in the suburbs and the big cities, young people, students and senior citizens. The fact that in the last four and a half years we signed 25 new international agreements with countries all over the world is an expression of the great success of this policy and meeting the second goal I set. I would like to thank the CEO of the office Ran Bar for the cooperation, dedication and professionalism all along the way and to all the employees of the office that thanks to your initiative and creativity we made great revolutions together. I wish great success to the incoming minister Yizhar Shai, I am sure that he will continue the revolution that we started here at the Ministry of Science and Technology for the benefit of all Israeli citizens."

Director General of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Ran Bar: "The Ministry of Science and Technology has set its flag on being a lever for economic and social growth and leads translational and applied research in Israel. Many thanks to the outgoing minister, Knesset member Ofir Akunis, for the leadership, initiative, direction and creative thinking. Under his leadership, we were able to meet and realize many challenges and break records, time after time. And to the new minister, Member of Knesset Yizhar Shai, we wish you great success, we are at your disposal and are confident that your extensive experience in the high-tech field will help you and us to refine the training of the next generation, to guide those who are interested in an innovative applied research academy to soar towards new peaks in science, technology and space."

  1. Tell me, don't you see what you are writing???
If he is between 55 and was a fighter in the Galilee Peace War (in the 890th regiment) - then he was between 16 or 15 at that time - it is not the Palmach and unlikely. Therefore he may have been in Lebanon but he was not in the First Lebanon War (maybe he was in high school).
Either a mistake, or for you to check his resume....maybe there are some more misleading things there....
