The particle accelerator at CERN is shut down for two months due to a helium leak

Earlier, a transformer failure caused a temporary halt in the operation of the new LHC particle accelerator at CERN

The LHC particle accelerator, the world's most sophisticated machine that just started up on September 10 may be shut down for two months due to a helium leak. Yesterday, Friday, the detectors in the experimental facility detected a helium leak and a loss of vacuum conditions, in the connection between two segments in the accelerator. Following the discovery of the leak, the operation of the accelerator was disabled until the source of the problem was found and repaired. Today the CERN spokesman, James Gillis, has already announced that this is a more serious damage than they first thought. The accelerator has been shut down and will only be back in operation in about two months.

It was previously reported that on September 11, one day after the opening of the accelerator, fragments of particles hit the stop tubes of the particle accelerator at CERN, and were discovered in the calorimeter facility and the muon room. According to reports, just one day after the successful launch of protons at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) last week, its operators were forced to stop its operation due to a fault in the thirty-ton transformer used to cool parts of the facility. No protons were fired in the accelerator tunnel at that time and therefore there was no safety risk for those staying in the accelerator.

Instead of keeping the equipment at a temperature of less than 2 degrees Kelvin, the fault in the transformer caused the temperature to rise above 4 degrees Kelvin. Still cold but not cold enough for the sensitive devices. The transformer failed after a successful counterclockwise run of protons on the evening of 11/XNUMX and the news of this was only confirmed now, over a week later.

The LHC engineers would of course prefer to forego the frustrating problems, but in many ways, they are unavoidable. This is the most technologically complex facility ever built. A 27 km long ring of supercooled electronics, operating at a temperature colder than anything known in the universe, containing 2000 separate power supply systems and a vast number of synchronized detectors and sensors. No wonder then that the LHC may experience one or two technical glitches.

The malfunction was critical to the operation of the accelerator and caused the immediate closure of the experiment until the technicians found the source of the problem. Judith Jackson, spokeswoman for the National Fermi Accelerator Laboratory, is not surprised by the glitch. "We know how complex and unusual it is to run this type of machine. No one has ever built one like this and in the process of starting up the accelerator it is inevitable to encounter faults."

CERN stated that the source of the malfunction has been identified and the scientists are still on the right track for the collisions to begin in October. By the way, the proton beams were able to run hundreds of clockwise and counterclockwise rotations before stopping the experiment.

  1. Or my fate-your fate??
Ah Yehuda? Did you enjoy yourself for a moment??? Traitor!

Hugin: The sheep from the laundry.

  2. Until we fix the problem, we need to find a way to pass the boredom...
So I will continue to pronounce the Gigi in bit way
    Yeh it's my beat way
    The booster went silent
And the particle is still gone
    The ring was removed
    And we remained clueless
    The helium escaped
    And our stars through

Let's hope there will be no further delays in cooling the horizontal tower of Babel.
I couldn't resist calling it Tower of Babel because of the non-committal randomness of gematria
    As Bubba Bubba said
    Cern = 340
And in Genesis it was said: And they said, Let us build a city, and a tower with its head in the sky, and let us make a name for ourselves!
    Name = 340
And for the drifters among us, "I'm cold" = 340

  4. Peace be upon you Bialik of Yehuda
Here, on his audacity, you also caught a ride..
But I am your child from Matilda
I will not despair, I will not despair, I will not despair
If your fate prevailed, my world also prevailed
And you were a wave to me
I will turn the wheel for you more and more
And I say in honor of you and him and me and them..
Everything is good. Everything is good.. Everything is good.

Thank you.. Yehuda... of Hugin and the whole company...

  5. To Hogin: At your request, for your judgment, I served you poorly.

    Our Hugin forever

    Heights, even at ease
    Unit, fearless
A miracle to trample your commenter

There he galloped arrogantly, a wave in the great sea
A naked heart like a devil on a leviathan monster,
    Glowing tassels shine in blue,
And we are on the beach, like the moon don't give.

You will not be allowed to stop
Be a candle at our feet
    Responsive order, yes or no
You are a sword for our tongues.

  6. Questions
    1. Is the facility supposed to work continuously?
2 How long does it take Ben to start up to full activity?
3 What happens to the tubes if the beam collapses in the middle and the protons hit the wall?? I believe that these are tiny boys if at all, but still?
4 Is there dangerous radioactivity in certain areas?

  7. To all Man Dibai

The biggest machine in the world has seriously broken down.

    An article from YNET today

The European Hadron Collider will be shut down for at least two months due to a helium leak
    Published: 20.09.08, 14:54

Following the helium leak that was discovered on Friday in the large hadron accelerator in Sarn, the operation of the accelerator was shut down, in order to locate the source of the malfunction.
Today, after examining the affected area by the experts of the European Union's Center for Nuclear Research (cern), the center's spokesman, James Gillies, said that the damage caused was found to be more severe than expected, and that it will take at least two months before the accelerator is back in operation.

  9. Yehuda
It is very clear to me that you are "dying to know" but it seems that the others must have seen ahead of you for the reaction of the "Ob".
I'm not sure you really understand why I'm here.
    But he did.
Hugin: Seriously, for the serious ones.

  10. to hug
So, so, so, are you back???
If you have a problem with some smelly "ob", just tell us and we'll attack it, and I'm at the head!
    so what now
    coming back
    In science, dying to know.

  11. I was actually shot down by a slimy, nauseating black entity known as the "Ob" when I responded
Wired to the borders!! My father blocked me! He left the "ob" here as a souvenir.
That's it, so how and how did I leave you a message? It's only Yehuda... can understand.
Regarding the accelerator in Zern. I am personally happy with the impedance.

Hugin: thought Monin = memory Odin = I will thank and not be ashamed.

  12. And by the way, you've heard the sad news.

Without any explanation, Hugin informed Avi Blizovsky that she was withdrawing from the site.
Indeed, she brought us a youthful spirit and reactions from the best.

    Hugin, - think twice.
    we are sad

  13. To Avi Blizovsky - an offer

As you know, a new model of cars comes out already in October. In the same way, how about releasing the new model of your articles already at ten o'clock at night. You are robbing us of precious hours of sleep.
    For your judgment.
