"In order to carry out the technology revolution in education - the entire ecosystem must be changed"

"The technology exists, but in order for it to be used, the entire education chain must change and allow companies and startups to make the revolution," said Zika Avtzuk, Cisco's business development manager.

"In order for technology to enable the change of the education system and carry out the revolution, the entire ecosystem of the system must be changed," said Zika Avtsuk, Cisco's business development manager, at a meeting of the Hafis Forum for Education, which took place recently in Holon.

According to her, "The world is changing. There has been a change in the way we work and the way we play, and the way of studying will also change. For students to succeed in this world, they need to have the appropriate skills. They must have an entrepreneurial spirit, and know how to learn on their own and work collaboratively. The students should be big-headed."

"We need to transform learning - both in content and in the way it is done. It's possible that you don't need classroom studies anymore", Avtsuk pointed out. She noted a trend that characterizes the field these days: "The teacher's role is changing and he is becoming a facilitator and a guide. The student also needs to stop being passive and take ownership of his way of learning, be more pro-active, so that he knows how to continue learning even after school."

However, she said that "the fact that the technology required to make the change already exists is good news. Now the ecosystem needs to be changed: work with the teachers, school principals, students, parents and also with the pedagogical secretariat, so that the start-ups and companies that can provide services and adapt the various programs can do so, in order to change the way of learning."

Avtsuk said that Cisco is interested in helping make the revolution happen.

She later said that "Beyond the ability of technology to change the way of learning, it can solve other difficult problems in the education system. For example, to reduce the gaps between schools in different places, to answer the sardine protest about overcrowding in classrooms and even to solve the problem of teacher attrition".

After Avtsuk's words, she moderated a panel where representatives from three start-up companies presented their developments: Guy Verdi, CEO of Esar Tomfot; Tali Guetta, VP at Code Monkey - a project to learn programming through a game; And Yuval Kaminka, CEO of JoyTunes, which developed software for music studies, which is mainly used to provide feedback to the player when he practices.

  1. I did not try to claim that this website has any commercial business interests with anyone, only about the speakers at the conference.

On second thought, I find that I got a little carried away and managed to ignore the headline in the title "To carry out the technology revolution in education", which raises many questions and bewilderments long before approaching the ecosystem of the education system: What is wrong in her opinion in the education system? What needs to be improved? Which person does she want to take out of the cave at the end of XNUMXth grade (not including kindergartens, colleges and universities)? What is that coup? What is her purpose? What are the changes to be made?

When you ask these questions, you immediately understand that the answers will come from a different solution space, which does not necessarily include startups and super sophisticated routers.

  2. I don't know about the speakers, who were on stage and I was at the end of the hall. I have no business interest in any of these companies Is not supports the site - like 100% of the other companies in the economy.

  3. In the words of Cisco's business development director, there are several things that were not explained in the article at all, such as: "that the startups and companies that can provide services and adapt the various programs will be able to do so, in order to change the way of learning".

What services?, an iPad for each student?, a computer?, which contain what software?, all kinds of interactive apps with tasks and colors that will somehow make the student more interested in the subject of study.
After all, it is quite clear that these tricks will not work on a student in the XNUMXth grade or higher. The problem of the education system today is the students' aspiration for mediocrity due to a lack of encouragement and interest in the subjects of the Ministry of Education (especially mathematics, physics). It is clear as day that the traditional way of "sitting, reading and practicing" is the best way to succeed in matriculation subjects, for most students.

Or "reduce the gaps between schools in different places, respond to the sardine protest about overcrowding in classrooms and even solve the problem of teacher attrition".

Where does the problem of teacher attrition come from?, to reduce gaps between schools in different places - from what point of view? The percentage of eligibility for matriculation? The quality of the taps? The quality of the teachers?

  4. I can also write monstrous and pointless slogans about the education ecosystem, but the revolutions in education in recent decades have brought us children who can't read (and certainly not punctuate Hebrew). who do not know how to perform four arithmetic operations (because there is a calculator), who do not know history (because it is on Google), who do not know geography (because there is Google Maps and GPS), who do not study physics (because it bores them) and who do not study five units of mathematics ( Because everyone suddenly has dyscalculia). In short, today the education system produces small Google and Android terminals.

Now offering revolution startups. First, I suggest remembering that approximately 95% of startups close because their ideas are stupid and unrealizable, some of them do have successful ideas, but not the entrepreneurs and their team are the ones who can realize them. Those who do succeed usually do so only after they make a very significant turn in the vision, the product, the understanding of the market and the customer's needs. In the education system where the product can only be truly tested after 20 years or so, when he functions as a citizen in society there is no such feedback.

Now, dear students, go back to the text at the top of the page, and mentally mark for yourself which of the text are hollow statements and empty of content, and when the business interest of the speakers really becomes clear (and what it is). I'm sure it will contribute more to you than a "study year" of scrambled content about entrepreneurship.

  5. We will see our government allocate the necessary funds for education - after all, they will have to give less to tycoons and other cronies. Unfortunately, there is no chance of a revolution in education. Even for a small revolution that will throw out all the distortions - not to mention establishing a system that really functions, uses innovative technologies, does not hate the student, and leads to excellence.
