When Cassini arrived at Titan on August 21, 2005, it captured this natural-color image of the orange haze covering the entire surface of the moon.
The murky atmosphere disappointed Voyager scientists in their first attempt to fly by Titan 25 years ago. However, now, the surface of Titan has been searched by Cassini in detail in other photographs - those made with radar.
This image was taken with the wide angle camera using red, green and blue light filters whose images were combined together to create this color image.
The image was taken from a distance of about 213 thousand km from Titan at a sun-Titan-spacecraft angle of 55 degrees. The resolution in this image is 13 km per pixel.
