Ruby Galaxy

Messier-83 is the glow-in-the-dark pinwheel * The almost twin galaxy to the Milky Way was photographed using the latest equipment at the European Southern Observatory in Chile

The European Southern Observatory's (ESO) Wide Field Camera imaged the intricate swirl of the spiral galaxy M83 (Massian 83), a small galaxy very similar in shape to our own Milky Way. The galaxy shining with the light of billions of stars and red flashes like the ruby of hydrogen gas, is a beautiful example of a spiral galaxy with a rod, whose shape brought it the nickname - the wheel of the southern wind.

The observatory is located in the dry desert mountains in the city of La Silla in the Atacama Desert in Chile and is operated by scientists from the European Union, at an altitude of about 2,400 meters above sea level. La Silla has the clearest and darkest skies on the entire planet, which makes the site ideal for exploring the farthest depths of the universe.

M83 is about 15 million light-years from us in the direction of the great giant constellation Hydra (the sea serpent). It lasts for 40 thousand light years, which means it is 2.5 times smaller than our home galaxy - the Milky Way. However, M83 is similar in many ways to the Milky Way. Both contain a rod extending through the galactic core - that dense collection of stars we see near the centers of galaxies.

The detailed photograph shows M83's spiral arms adorned with bright flashes of ruby light. These are actually glowing hydrogen clouds. Ultraviolet radiation from newly born massive stars ionizes the gas in these clouds and causes vast regions of hydrogen to glow red. These star forming regions are in contrast to the relatively subtle glow of the old yellow stars near the center of the galaxy. The image shows the fine texture of dust streams moving through the galaxy's arms.

M83 was discovered by the French astronomer Nicolas-Louis de Lacille in the mid-18th century. Decades later it was included in the famous catalog of the deep night sky prepared by the famous French astronomer and comet hunter Charles Messier. Recent observations of this enigmatic galaxy in ultraviolet light and in the radio field have shown that even remote areas - located far away from those seen in the image - are inhabited by baby stars.

X-ray observations of the galaxy's core have shown that its center is also riddled with regions of star formation hidden deep behind the clouds of heated gas, at a temperature of 7 million degrees Celsius. M83 is also one of the most prolific producers of supernovae, exploding stars - one of two galaxies where 6 supernovae have exploded in the last hundred years. One of the supernovae - SN 1957D was observed for about 30 years.

The Wide Field Camera (WFI) is a dedicated astronomical camera attached to the European Southern Observatory's Max-Planck telescope. To take the picture, the WFI operators made a hundred minute exposure and passed the picture through several filters, which made it possible to reveal even the subtlest and faintest details. The bright stars in the background are in our galaxy, while the moment behind M83 is dotted with patches of distant galaxies.

  1. Avi:
You demand too much from Ariel.
It is impossible to justify Crazy rules like these If you act logically. The only way to justify them is to invent all kinds of stories about an imaginary and omnipotent friend who enacted them.

  2. Ariel, a beautiful and tall building without foundations will be assembled. Religion and especially the irrational parts of it are against science which is the only factor that can be trusted in the pursuit of truth. Any nonsense like a Hassidic book is simply a waste of time. Your time has already passed 200 years ago, only you are simply strong, violent and take advantage of the ignorance caused by your participants in the education system.
Go to your delusional websites, leave the science website to the rational people.

  3. It's a wonder to me that an educated person (and I really think you're an educated person) you don't notice how when it comes to Judaism then you start talking from your stomach and not from your head.

As a scientist with a reputation, I thought you would consider things with the eyes of reason and see fit to look into the matter in depth. But instead of that you tell me about "materials" you read? And about the fact that you studied at "Dati"? And why are they occupying Ramat Aviv and violence and policemen (by the way, I didn't really understand this part)

I think your response is conclusive evidence that there is a good instinct and an evil instinct. If you notice, you don't examine Judaism with sober thinking as you are used to as a scientist, but straight up shoot gizzards in all directions while mixing up all the topics you found in today's newspaper about the word ultra-Orthodox inside..

    Now regarding the actual response:
    1. Reading "materials" is not enough. It is not possible to say that I am knowledgeable about astronomy in all its aspects because I have read one or another bulletins in the field. In order to *know* you have to *study* and study deeply. "Reading materials" is very superficial.
    2. Studies in the religious language are also not sufficient, and I say even more than that even studies in the ultra-Orthodox are not enough! Each person needs to investigate on his own and come to a realization out of understanding and knowledge. The Torah does not require faith alone but knowledge and understanding as it is written: "And know this day and return to your heart that the name is God in the heavens above and there is no more on the earth below", there should be knowledge!
    3. There are no contradictions in the Torah, period. What's more, there are things we can't get to the bottom of - just like in science. Each of the topics you mention has an answer, you just need to study in depth and change your attitude and also (of course) want to hear.
    4. Chabad does not act contrary to the parents' opinion. There is a mitzvah to honor father and mother and anyone who keeps (or wants to keep) Torah and mitzvot must listen to the voice of his parents. Even in simple logic it is clear that parents should be respected as gratitude to those who care, have cared and will care for us.
    5. No one asked you and probably won't ask you where to live. This statement is straight from the stomach..
    6. If the police would throw them away then I would call our country "uncorrected" and dark.

Regarding your summary, let me share about you:
People oppose Judaism for several reasons, one of them being the educational system and the media hide Judaism and give too much negative exposure to the ultra-orthodox and everything that smells of religion. Inaccessibility to the Torah is what causes our lack of Torah knowledge! both yours and mine.

Therefore, I repeat my original suggestion: take a Hasidic book and sit with a Hasidic person of stature (I would be happy to link you if you want) and study only one book in depth without prejudice... and then whatever your opinion is - you can say that it is from knowledge and not from lack of knowledge.

    Wishing you a healthy summer!
    Ariel

  4. I have read enough Chabad materials to know exactly what the rationalization behind them is. I also studied Torah in a religious state school as a child. However, when standing on a table you need to see if its legs are strong enough so that you don't fall. The entire Torah and the Tanakh are full of holes and contradictions, and in particular they contradict science in fundamental matters such as the human body, medicine, the age of the universe and its structure and a million and one other things, with so much nonsense, it's a shame to spend extra time studying them. Chabad thinks it knows better than the parents how to educate their children, while in practice it makes the converts become its soldiers and violently attack anyone who wants to evict it, for example, from outposts in secular neighborhoods without anyone inviting them. In a reformed country the police would already take care of kicking them out, in Israel the police pray in their synagogue and therefore there is no savior, only if the residents respond to Chabad with the same violence it uses towards them, its people will understand the hint and stop harassing the children.
If you ask me, this is a movement that should be outlawed like any cult.
People are attracted to the Torah for one reason - the education system and the media hide science from them and give too much exposure to religion and its representatives on earth. Inaccessibility to the truth is what caused this attraction to lies.

  5. "nonsense"? And you say this from familiarity with which book exactly?

I am sure that if we had corresponded 300 years ago she would have lectured me with the same abysmal seriousness that the quantum theory is complete nonsense that only spiritual primitives believe in.

I offer you a study, and you answer me with generalizations while mixing all the sects you have heard about without knowing what you are talking about.

Have you ever had the opportunity to study a Hassidic book in its entirety with a Chassid who could explain to you the rules of analyzing the texts as you would a scientific book?

I, unlike you, study both Torah and science with the utmost seriousness, and know both sides. And you?

I'm not forcing you to think otherwise, feel free, but at least check.

By the way, no one "kidnaps" children, it is a pretense to claim that everyone is stupid and follows religion out of "low intelligence" and only you are the one who watches from above and "understands" how wrong everyone is...

People are drawn to the Torah because it is the natural language of the soul and once you start with it you realize, without having to explain, that this is what you were looking for.

I hope you don't block me from that too..

  6. Ariel read what I wrote to you in bold letters inside the blocked comment and you will understand.
A liberal cannot legitimize people whose entire role in life is to kidnap children from their parents and turn them into their robots. If this is your example then keep it to yourself. Hasidism, like the Hare Krishna doctrine, Scientology, and like Christian cults are one big and anti-rational nonsense. Think about where the messianic idea came from and you will understand that Rabbi Shach was right when he said that Chabad is the closest sect to Judaism. If they were not violent, the rabbis would have removed them from all of Israel a long time ago.

  7. I don't understand why you didn't publish my response (and your irrelevant response to part of the response).

As a self-professed liberal I expect you to be open to other views.

I guess you can't really handle what is written there.

What remains for me is to wish and hope that one day you will have the courage to examine Hasidism in a real way without prejudices.

With a kosher and happy Passover
    Ariel

  8. ask the interested party,

No, you should know that in supernovae the temperature reaches billions of degrees... 🙂

  9. A question that is indirectly related to the article.

Is there an upper limit to the temperature? Something like the speed of light which is known to be impossible to cross?

    Thanks

  10. Yanon:
Why is it written in the Torah that the rabbit and the hare chew the cud?
What kind of fact is this?
(The truth is that all religious preaching is raising gira, but for some reason it is not written in the Torah that Chabatim raise gira).
Why did God order to build the copper sea as a circle with a diameter of 10 cubits and a circumference of 30 cubits?
After all, the fact that such a circuit cannot be built is a fact. Did this fact escape his understanding?

  11. Igal,

Everything that is written in the Torah as something that can be learned about this world is a fact!
The Gemara is differences of opinion and perhaps [as I imagine] theories.

Vigal from your response I conclude that you don't read newspapers according to what I read today scientists are trying to reconstruct the big bang theory [it seems to me that they want to know what happened in the past hence they deal with what used to be]
    post Scriptum. Once = past

    Good night.

  12. Dear Yanon. With all due respect to the Torah and its contribution to the Jewish people, throughout history it deals only with theories, while science is practical and one can derive a lot from it. This can be seen in my daily life. While the Torah deals with the past and hence also belongs to the past, science deals with the future and hence its great importance. Dear Yanon Open your eyes and see where you live!

  13. Avi Bobolski, isn't it easier to block him immediately than to argue?!
Send him to talk to the firewall...and if we're already in the business of blocking, why don't we also block leftists who preach illusory peace with our cannibal neighbors?!

  14. I did not delete, because if you knew me you would understand that my character is such that I respect every person. Of course, the reasonable condition is that they will not take advantage of it, and you unfortunately took advantage of my tolerance.
By the way, this is not only related to religion or religions in general, I had to block several talkbackists who started using the site as a platform to ask questions whose answers are in the article, and I even deleted some of Kobi's panicked reactions, which we explained to him a hundred times that nothing would happen from the accelerator in Geneva and he continues to flood with his claim about the end of the world.
The platform you use should be respected.
And if you want to understand a little more, here is a quote from the words of Isaac Asimov in response to someone who defended a theory that tried to prove what is written in the Bible through astronomical events (allegedly) The truth is, what real value has science contributed to man's seventy years? "Hish Mahar responded in a letter in which I wrote, among other things:"...One of the things that have 'real value' are those seventy years of a person's life... For most of history, the lifespan was closer to thirty. Are we not entitled to expect from you anything but gratitude for that additional forty years of life that you had the opportunity to enjoy?"

  15. Avi,
You say that this is supposedly your "nature reserve" and that our websites delete your comments..
So why didn't you delete my first comment?!
And why didn't you tell me before what you are telling me now..
I would respect you and your site.

  16. I get the impression that this is a compressed and heavy supermassive galaxy. This might explain the phenomena mentioned in the article, namely:
    A. The formation of many massive stars, my husband
    Ultraviolet emission spectrum.
    B. A lot of supernovae.
third. Galaxy dimensions are small (relative to the Milky Way).

Thus the question arises why the emission spectrum
From the area closest to the center of the galaxy is in the yellow area? It is possible that in this region the massive stars have already finished their short and stormy lives and mainly the lighter stars, similar to our sun, remain.
Their life is longer and they emit in the yellow zone.

  17. Linon Sharev
    A. No one is stopping you from studying science. only you
You will benefit from it. And you (and I) probably have a lot
    A lot to learn.
    B. There is no contradiction to your religious belief. No law
of the religion does not state (as far as I know) that a person
A believer should be devoid of scientific education.

  18. my father
It's sad that repentance involves so many unnecessary concessions. About common sense (common sense) and tolerance and patience and the pleasures of life and freedom and more...
Apparently these concessions activate a powerful mechanism in the human soul. The effect this has on the unrecognizable crowd to cluster and become an even more unrecognizable herd.
    It is an enigma.
A few hundred years ago, a Catholic believer sat down in a cave and decided that seclusion and abstaining from the pleasures of life was the right way to realize his faith. The rumor spread and he didn't stay alone for long. From this matter was born the phenomenon of monasteries all over the world. The economic power that these monasteries accumulated in all the places where they were established was enormous. And that is to this day.
As you know, joining the monastery requires renouncing all of the above.
Conclusion It is easy to convince people to give up free will and the ability to think individually.
and at the same time to raise a powerful economic enterprise based on these concessions.

  19. I have shown enough tolerance for Odin Linon, he has already written ultra-orthodox propaganda here a kilometer long. You also have to consider the site's readers who are tired of the nonsense on the other sites and want one poor site that is true to scientific truth.

  20. Yanon, unfortunately the economic power of the thugs is immeasurably greater than the power of the sane people in the country, because they also brazenly receive our tax money and do not pay taxes themselves (neither they nor the public are affected by them).
Therefore they have the ability to build a million websites, leave alone the only sane website in the country. I'm not going to make him another stage for lying.
I know it's hard for you to understand that your Torah is like any Torah that every guru spreads as a false Torah, but understand that there are also secularists and atheists and they deserve a nature reserve, especially when the truth is with them and not with any of the ultra-Orthodox/Imaim/priests/Buddhists, etc.
Try writing a comment in favor of evolution on Amnon Yitzhak's website. There they are not as liberal as we are, they pass all the comments for review and upload only the ones they want.

There is no need to give freedom of expression to two truths for the simple reason - that there are no two truths. Just because the site is in Hebrew then the religious Jews demand but don't worry, we already had an attack from Muslim commenters who demanded that we link to their sites (in English though) that prove the connection between science and the Koran, and maybe there are also Christians who want to prove the connection between the Torah and their religion. We do not discriminate in any way between the vanity beliefs themselves, but between them and the scientific truth.

  21. Avi,
You have faith in science, I have faith in the Torah.
You are no less stubborn than me. Everyone wants to know the truth and only it, but takes a position and presents his claims, in order to validate his path.
I've been reading articles on the site for 8 months, I really didn't come to fight or argue..
A lot of comments relate personally and hurt what I believe in, so I responded back like that.

    Good night.

  22. Hi Higgs
You are here, in the galaxy of the precious ruby stone, and I thought to "Tommy" that you gave an easy jump to Switzerland
    save the project..

    dear father,
You are not a state site. You are a majestic site.

  23. Yanon, you didn't curse but you came here for a specific purpose and despite all the explanations for your mistakes you continued to stick to your mistakes. This is not the purpose of the talkbacks on the site. Don't forget that we are not a state site and therefore we have no obligation to balance the lie with the truth but to bring only the scientific truth which is the one that has marched humanity forward.

If you are convinced of this, we will remove the block for you

  24. Let's assume that in some future a technology will be developed that will allow a small jump there (perhaps through a black hole)
And in addition, a telescopic technology will be developed that will allow focused viewing from such distances on the Earth, like Google Earth but from 15 million light years.
It would be possible to jump there with such a telescope and photograph the entire history of the earth from 15 million years ago until now. It would have taken 15 million years of film.
But using the jumping technology, this period can be cut into short sections, say every 100 thousand years, and a full-length film can be finished quite quickly. how about cool cool isn't it?
