Astronaut Jessica Meyer unveiled the anti-radiation suit of the Israeli start-up company "Stamred" in space today (Thursday 30.1) and for the first time the Israeli flag was flown on a suit on the International Space Station. This is another step towards the first test of the suit in space conditions.

The protective suit against space radiation, developed by "Stamred" with funding from the Israel Space Agency at the Ministry of Science and Technology, was launched last November to the International Space Station. The company has developed a protective suit suitable for astronauts because women have a greater chance of being harmed by life-threatening radiation in space. As part of the experiments on the International Space Station, three American astronauts will wear the suit in the gravitational conditions of the space station for varying periods of time and during routine activities and will test the effectiveness of the suit. Later, the suit will also be launched aboard NASA's Orion spacecraft, where real data will be obtained on its ability to protect against radiation.
The Minister of Science and Technology, Ofir Akunis congratulated and said "We are breaking records of Israeli activity, creation and initiative in all fields of science and technology. The photos from the International Space Station arrive exactly in the week when we celebrate Israeli Space Week. I am proud of the developers of the first Israeli space suit that tonight we all see it and the Israeli flag on it - also in space. The Ministry of Science and Technology under my leadership will continue to support studies, space exploration and other initiatives that bring us all national and international Israeli pride."

Dr. Oren Milstein, CEO and founder of the "StemRad" company: "There is nothing more joyful than seeing the Israeli flag flying on the International Space Station and more during Israeli Space Week. On the 17th anniversary of Ilan Ramon's passing, we are very proud to present to the world a unique contribution of the State of Israel to protecting the health of astronauts."

Avi Blasberger, Director of the Israel Space Agency at the Ministry of Science and Technology: "Today the Israeli radiation suit was taken out of its packaging by astronaut Jessica Meir. The suit, which was developed with the help of the Israeli Space Agency at the Ministry of Science, was sent to the space station for ergonomic tests by the astronauts there. This stage is another step in the journey to make it an essential product in manned space missions. There is no sign that the event took place during the Israeli Space Week, which was held in memory of Ilan Ramon, the first Israeli astronaut."

  1. It would be nice if any concepts would come as a link, and clicking on them would lead to an explanation page.
For example, it says "and this is because women are more likely to be harmed by life-threatening radiation in space."
If this sentence would appear as a link and would lead to a short explanatory page about why women are more exposed to radiation in space it would be really nice and enlightening.
    Thanks

  2. Which suit and which space are you breaking? How do you know this suit is suitable for space before you lousy liars are there and don't tell me you got to the moon and knew what to wear before you got there. How do you know what is suitable for what? Don't know everything about the Earth and still don't know what shape it is, how do you want to know what's in space? Poor liars. Investigate here first, then we will believe you.
