The ecological trend affects all areas of life, now also in gyms. A gym operator in Portland, Oregon decided to utilize the energy of the devices to produce electricity and greatly saved electricity expenses

Adam Bozel, a gym operator in the US created the first green gym in North America in an attempt to save costs. Rising energy prices pushed him to turn scarcity into an asset, and success exceeded expectations.

The idea is not new, gyms have great potential in energy production, everyone knew it but so far no one has done anything about it. Adam decided to pick up the gauntlet and now he is teaching others how to do it.

While the exercisers burn energy on the various devices, special motors harvest energy and store it in batteries for later use. The pedals that turn the bicycle wheels, the running equipment and other devices are connected to a dynamo that charges batteries. The batteries, along with additional solar panels, run the rest of the devices and exempt the business from paying for electricity.

According to Adam, at first the savings were not high, but as he converted more and more devices, his savings in electricity expenses increased. The same people who pay him for the right to use the devices also provide the energy to run them. Today, the fitness equipment at the institute provides 100% of the business's electricity consumption.

The lack of energy has pushed many industries to look for creative solutions to save energy. The success of the green gym in Portland can be a milestone for the gym industry in general and the large fitness chains in particular, those chains with dozens of branches have to pay tens of thousands of dollars for electricity, a one-time investment in equipment can save future operating costs.

We note that device manufacturers are also paying attention to the green trend, future devices under development should provide added value to convince gyms to change equipment, and it seems that harvesting human energy and storing it for the purpose of saving electricity will provide the desired added value.

  1. Itzik I have never heard of this story but it is a good and interesting story with those who go to train at this gym also pay for it and not only save on electricity

  2. There is a story probably about Edison, I don't remember, that when guests came to him
They would complain why is it so difficult to open the entrance gate? And how is it that nobody
An act like this does not fix the problem.
So he would laugh and say that while they were trying to open the gate they were actually
Pump several liters of water to the water tank located on the roof of the building and thus save
    He has the pumping job.

  3. Haha, not only from runners.. also from Grandpa David who works out in the gym and Grandma Shola who came to loosen up her joints.
