The Technion and Yale University's School of Management will establish a three-year partnership to conduct research in the fields of internal security and the fight against terrorism. The partnership was made possible thanks to the generous donation of Daniel Rose, a Yale graduate.
As part of the unique partnership, the Technion and Yale scientists will jointly study strategic, tactical and operational problems and new insights into the areas of internal security and combating terrorism, with the intention of developing new tools for decision-making and policy analysis. The research will focus on issues that include resource allocation, decision-making under conditions of uncertainty, the interrelationship between human intelligence and technology, and the study of sophisticated analysis methods to identify the location and possible methods of action of terrorists.
"This investment by Daniel Rose is a clear confirmation of the high-quality research being conducted at the Technion, and the importance of this research to the international community," said the Technion's president, Professor Yitzhak Apluig. "The rare combination of our research capabilities in the field of counterterrorism with the Yale School of Management's renowned approach to problem solving holds the promise of a safer world."
The president of "Yale" University, Professor Richard Levine, said: "We are happy to be partners with the Technion in research on a subject of such great importance to global society."
The researchers leading the joint project are Professor Boaz Golani, Dean of the Faculty of Industrial Engineering and Management at the Technion, Professor Avi Marmor, Head of the Center for Defense Science and Technology at the Technion, Professor Uriel Rothblum and Professor Edward Kaplan from Yale.
The new partnership will promote new synergies between the two institutions and the mechanisms of terrorism will be studied within it. "This is a meeting between Israel, the leader in the fields of security and the fight against terrorism, and the United States, which needs research in these fields," emphasized Daniel Rose. "In my opinion, this is also a way to let people know that the USA and its leading universities, such as Yale, are happy to cooperate with the Technion and other leading universities in Israel."
As part of the partnership, grants will be given to encourage innovative research in relevant fields, researcher exchanges will take place between the two institutions, and conferences and seminars will be held in the fields of internal security and anti-terrorist activity.
