The Higher Education Council approved the Technion to open a study program in nanosciences and nanotechnology

Intended for those with a bachelor's degree in natural sciences and engineering

The Higher Education Council approved the Technion to open a unique study program in nanosciences and nanotechnology. The master's degree program is multidisciplinary and open to bachelor's degree holders in many fields, in engineering, natural sciences and medicine. This program is one of the first of its kind in the world and is intended for students at the highest level.

The management of the Technion considers the development of research and teaching in nanotechnology and nanosciences of great importance, and has made them a high priority. Recently, the Nanotechnology Research Institute named after Russell Berry was established at the Technion, with an investment of 88 million dollars, and it is the largest institute in Israel and one of the largest in the world in this field. In its framework, there are collaborations between researchers from different disciplines, and the research of over a hundred researchers at the Technion currently touches the fields of nano.

Nanotechnology is essentially multidisciplinary and the goal of the new program is to impart knowledge and multidisciplinary research tools that go beyond those provided in the normal master's courses.

The management of the Technion emphasizes that in recent years there has been a scientific boom followed by technological development that manifests itself in the application of nanotechnology in many and varied fields. Nanoparticles are used in medicine, diagnostics and treatment, and there are many expectations for the future, with the advancement of knowledge about the interrelationships between biological and synthetic systems at a nanometric level in the human body. Advanced technologies apply nanotechnology in many other fields, from opto-electronic devices, through food additives, to water treatment.
