A great achievement for the Israeli team at the 2019 Physics Olympiad held at Tel Aviv University. The students of the team won five medals - 2 gold, 2 silver and one bronze. The Minister of Education, Rabbi Peretz, came to the award ceremony and congratulated the winning students. The team was informed today of its impressive achievements as part of the 50th International Physics Olympiad held in Israel under the leadership of the Ministry of Education. Meanwhile, seventy-eight countries from all over the world came to Israel. From the analysis of the results of all the delegations, it appears that the Israeli team placed in the top ten of the countries, eighth place. The competition was attended by 360 students from 78 delegations as well as 250 companions and guests. The Israeli delegation was represented by five students who were selected through a strict screening system and trained over the past two years.

At the end of the exam days, in the first stage, a team of physics experts who were specially recruited in Israel for this purpose gathered. The team checked the tests of all the participants, and at the end of the test the scores of the competing students were determined. In the second stage, the supervisors of the competing students from each country checked the tests and scores of their students determined by the team of Israeli experts. Each country had the right to challenge the grade and score given to its contestants. At the end of the first two stages, the competition moved to the third and final stage, in which the winners of the medals (gold, silver and bronze) were determined, as well as the outstanding ones of the competition.

The Ministry of Education and the Center for Future Scientists of the Maimonides Foundation led the training of students to participate in the International Science Olympiads. The Israeli physics team was trained at the Husidman Center for science-seeking youth at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. The academic director, Prof. Hazi Yitzhak. The competition was spread over a week, two of which were dedicated to theory and laboratory tests. As part of the theory test, the contestants were required to answer a series of questions compiled by a special academic committee established for the purpose of the competition at Tel Aviv University. It should be noted that Tel Aviv University provided academic sponsorship for the Olympics.

I am sure that we will see them in the future occupying the avenue of command of the world of science, and leading Israel to innovative breakthroughs. "

Shmuel Abuav, Director General of the Ministry of Education: "The education system promotes excellence, entrepreneurship and innovation, and it is our job to give the students all the necessary tools so that Israel continues to lead scientific and groundbreaking thinking. The impressive achievements of the Israeli team in physics are a source of pride and an important step in the pursuit of this goal. I congratulate the winners for their honorable and impressive achievement."

During their stay in Israel, the students and their companions traveled to different sites in the country in order to get to know the country's landscapes and culture. The international event was spent at the Ministry of Education, the Administration for Information Technology and Information Systems.

Dr. Shimshon Shoshani, Chairman of the Center for Future Scientists: "The members of the Israeli team in physics achieved admirable and inspiring achievements and brought tremendous pride to the State of Israel! Today we need to stand tall and be proud of them, their great talent and the tremendous effort and investment that brought them to these achievements. We must continue to invest and act for the significant challenge of the State of Israel - the realization of the potential of Israel's students."

Eli Fried, CEO of the Center for Future Scientists: "The impressive achievements of the members of the Israeli team in physics are the result of effort and perseverance together with the highest level of professional training they receive. Our students demonstrate abilities at a high level in front of students from all over the world and we intend to continue to help them break through and reach personal and national achievements."

It seems that we met both tasks with honor. The president of the Olympics says that we have set a very high standard for the countries that will come after us, and on the other hand, to be in eighth place in the world when countries like England, France, and Germany are behind us is an unimaginable achievement that fills us with enormous pride."
